What would be the best SD round for a 10.5" AR in .30?
Thanks
Doc
Ill have to try them out. I used them before in 300BO and killed a lot of pigs with them.Fixed your question. The answer is .300 blackout Barnes Tac-TX’s or Sierra TMK’s. Nosler Varmageddons I think are viable too, just haven’t tested them out yet.
I think I will use the 120gr Barnes black tips since I ha e about 300 of them.Well, they would be a good choice for low velocity reliability, but I was actually trying to convey that 300blk should be your .30 cal short barrel choice for defensive purposes. 308 and a short barrel is not a wise move for particularly defensive use.
Unless you need a flashbang. And you are already deaf.308 and a short barrel is not a wise move for particularly defensive use.
I have an AR in 556. Just asking in case it ever came down to using the 308. Bought some 120gr barnes black tips.

Its definately cool, i was just kidding. Ever since i saw this i kinda wanted one. I was just being jealous
I only have an ar 10, i have an aac flash hider on it and at night i have no flash issues. I mean technically he could add a can and over gas a little and shoot faster. And if 308 recoil is too much for you then you need to man up a little and train. The worst part of running the ar 10 is doing mag changes. So i practice reload drills more than anything. Practice practice practice, like anything else its just a tool. And yeah close quarters its like using a sledge hammer on finishing nails. But if what you are doing is destroying finishing nails then why use anything else.Very cool and all.
However...
I'd suggest that in 2 way range usage, you might be at a bit of a disadvantage if your opponents are able to put additional aimed shots on target quicker due to the less violent recoil of a different chambering. In addition at night, you might be disadvantaged by the muzzle blast.
I had buddies that were in afganistan during the 2000's that came back and told me stories of when they would "bring out the big guns" as i have been told there is a difference between and assault rifle and a battle rifle. The way i understood it, you carry an assault rifle when your walking alot and probably not shooting, you carry a battle rifle when your going to the places where the bad guys are. In your scenario i would rather have a battle rifle.Very cool and all.
