I know this is probably not the best place to ask this, but I have a Sig 516 in .223 and i dont knw what scope i should get for it. Or maybe its best to just leave the sig red dot that came with it? thanks

Im thinking 300 yards max. its only a .233 round. Money isnt an issue. I was thinking an acog might be cool???

I'd suggest what I have on my duty gun..Aimpoint T1 on a Larue mount, with a 3x mag behind it on a flip mount. It will suit you from arms distance to 300.

I have 4 ACOG's on my AR's all 4X. The one I like best is the TA31F, then the TA01NSN. The eye relief is short, 1.5" so it might take some getting use to. Another model I like have used but don't own is the TA33R. It's 3X but has longer eye relief. IIRC 1.9"

I personally have difficulty with acquisition and hold using red dot optics...don't really know why, I just don't like them. Like you, I was willing to spend some $$$ to get what I wanted. Ultimately, I went with the Nightforce 1-4x24 NXS compact on one of my Sig 556s. Mine is mounted on a LaRue LT-104 QD mount and has mil turrets, Zero Stop, and the NP-1 reticle. I've used it from 25 to 200 yd and couldn't be happier with the performance. Compared to a red or similar optic, it's fairly heavy...but I bet you could run over it with a truck and not hurt it in the least. The type of shooting I do with this rifle is similar to what you described, so I think you'd be happy with it. My .02.

The Sig red dot is just a cheap rebranded Chinese POS.
As for ACOG's, I love them and highly recommend them, try them before you buy one. Many people find they work great for them, however others find they prefer other optics. Don't buy something just to find that you don't like it.
As for red dots, I would suggest the Aimpoint T-1. Don't bother looking at the eotechs (or Iffytechs as their sometimes called).

There are a lot of great Optics for your setup. ELCAN, Trijicon, USO, Nightforce, Leupold, S&B, IOR and SO ON.
My favorite is the ELCAN Specter DR 1x 4x.

If money isn't an object, then throw a Schmidt and Bender PM 1.1-4 or a USO on there. Then, if you dont like the one you've choosen, send it to me, and try the other
