I have a big inchpound torque wrench that i have been using on projects(yes very aggrevating). I need to get me a good T-handle or smaller one that goes to 65 inchpounds. I dont want to spend a fortune on one, i have seen the fatwrench. But would like a T-handle.

Re: Best torque wrench on a budget!

There are so many threads here, regarding the torque wrench that Boris (Kortic, here) offers. I'm sure you found a number of them already in your searching. Like this one, for example. Or any of the multiple-hundred other posts and dare-I-say, threads?

So the real question would be, what is it about that particular design that you don't like?

Now THAT is/would be a topic worth discussing, don't you think?

Re: Best torque wrench on a budget!

You didn't specify your budget, but it figures you want something as cheap
as possible to do 65 inch-lbs.

Wheeler FAT wrench - $35
Check this page for places to buy.

Even Meijer's stores sell them.

Seekonk makes 65 inch-lbs. T-handle, will likely cost you $85+.

Hope this helps.

Re: Best torque wrench on a budget!

All these T-handles (Leupold, Nightforce, etc) are made by Seekonk. May save a couple of bucks to buy from Seekonk directly. The only thing - Seekonk advises to calibrate these T-handles just about every year, so to comply with this recommendation, get ready to pay a bit extra on periodic basis. As far as I know, majority of people don't do it anyway.

Re: Best torque wrench on a budget!

I bought a torque wrench from proto that fits your description for $128. My work calibrates my torque wrenches every 6 months. They only let us use Snap-On and Proto if that tells you anything. After seeing the read outs for accuracy I don't think I could trust any other brand of torque wrench.

Re: Best torque wrench on a budget!

after finding my action screws loose i had my wheeler fatthing checked...it was 15in/lbs low at 60. in other words worthless. got a used snap on after mucho searchin locally, its at the instrumant shop gettin calibrated. tired of junk cheap tools costin me range time

just an fyi.

Re: Best torque wrench on a budget!

I have a digital read out snap-on I love the fact that it doesn't have to be recalibrated, but its a bit more than your average wrench costs.

This is true....Seekonk also makes a dial type in/lb torque wrench and the calibration isn't required as often. I have a Snap-On in/lb dial type that my Dad bought in the 80's and it's needed service/calibration twice. Not a cheap wrench, but lasts forever....

Re: Best torque wrench on a budget!

You might check out OTC tools. I dont know if they have the smaller ones, but I have a couple of their torque wrenches and they always test as good or better than my snap ons, except for snap on that got sent back for repair. That one is dead nuts every time.

Re: Best torque wrench on a budget!

Wheeler fat wrench is the way to go. I use it a lot and it returns to zero pretty well when I had to take off my scope from my rifle for some gunsmithing. When i got the rifle back and torqued the rings properly I didn't even lose zero. my $0.02

Re: Best torque wrench on a budget!

Check out boris' kit from borka... Best bet, quick, adaptable and accurate for around $100. I own a wheeler, two seekonks and a borka... Haven't seen the other two since boris shipped the boka to me

Re: Best torque wrench on a budget!

You may want to consider the "Precision Instruments" torque driver. It is a dial type direct readout torque wrench with a scale from 0 to 75 in./lbs. in 1 in./lbs. increments. It is not cheap. Runs about $200.00 . I purchased mine from Sears (most convenient method for me). Check it out on their website or catalog. It has a large long handle with a 1/4" female drive socket in the top so you can attach a T handle. It is a 1/4" drive male lower. Product number is 009-44621. Something to consider.
