I have a new barrel for my AIAW and I want to ensure I don't mar the Cerakote barrel when I torque it down. I have the Adams action wrench and a set of aluminum barrel clamps. IIRC, the original Adams kit came with wooden blocks to vise the barrel, but I can't seem to find those blocks anymore. All I have is the tool and the rosin bag.

Would something like leather between the aluminum clamps and the barrel work? Also, what is the recommended torque value?

A business card or something along those lines wrapped around the barrel will prevent marring. I torque my barrels to 75 ft lbs and some people go to 100 ft lbs on them.

I just received the new barrel vise kit from short action customs. They recommended drywall tape and even included a short piece in the kit. I just pulled an older appoxied AE barrel that has that shiny finish. It worked great with no marring. I'm heading to home depot tomorrow to get a roll of it.

Thanks for the advice. I cleaned up the shop a bit and found the Wheeler vise and barrel clamp inserts so I am good to go. Too bad I didn't get it before I hit the range yesterday...it will be ready for next time.
