lets say that lava flow stopped halfway across the street, how long could it stay hot?
I've never been to an active volcano, it's on my bucket list, but my lady visited Volcano National Park a few years back when she worked a gig in Hawaii. She walked on a former flow that was active a few months prior, said it was hot on her feet.

I was thinking the same thing in terms of cleanup.

It's not like you're going out there next week with a D8 and clearing the road. If I were the operator that eventually had to go out there I'd insist on a pump truck on hand to continuously hose it down and cool it as I exposed new hot spots. The blasts of steam would also be a decent indicator of where NOT to be working.

I've got to believe that some of those flows will be dangerously hot for many months to come?

Basalt (Hawaiian) lava is 1,100C/2000F. That is cooler than I would have thought. Not even hot enough to melt aluminum, and a lot cooler than molten steel. I would have thought lava would melt a car, but apparently it's going to crush it more than melt it.

The smoldering fires at the WTC lasted for well over a month. I would say with lava, without any outside help, that shit would be hot for almost as long, at least in the depth of it

Why didn't that 'stang explode?? You mean hollywood has been lying to us all this time?
