Re: Better than a Baseball

please tell me it wasnt attached to an occupied house. unless said occupants happened to be rapist, murderers, gangsters, pedophiles, child molesters(I know), jerks, drunk drivers, jihadist, terrorist, or any body who does nothing but take away from society, or just bad people in general.

No, this was training and yes, it was on purpose. BTW, a brick fireplace works well as a backstop to prevent that SMK from continuing it's journey.

And for those worried about safety, this was a farmhouse in a rural location in the county. It will be demolished soon, so it was a great place to set this kind of stuff up. Glass causes bullets to do interesting things. It's important to train on it when the opportunity presents itself.

Hence the 2 cruisers and Emerg. Resp. Vehicle in the background.

Shooting thru glass should be on every tactical shooter's dossier. Take a lesson from what happened to Sacramento County Sheriff's Department Special Enforcement Detail at the Good Guy's electronics store incident from April 1991.

Re: Better than a Baseball

Interesting note about the fireplace. How many brick layers thick was it? How far into the brick did it penetrate? I've only ever fired at paper. Aside from accuracy I've never really thought too much about the recieving end.

Re: Better than a Baseball

I can't give you many details on the fireplace because the side we were shooting into was covered by drywall. The first shot broke the mortar in the lower portion seen through the back room. Subsequent shots didn't cause any more damage, but we kept moving the target. No rounds penetrated including some Tactical Bonded.

There was a large earth berm on the backside of the house. So even if we managed to throw one through the house it would not have left the site. This location was almost tailor made for this so we had to take advantage of it. The house we used today would not allow us to safely do a training shot like this.

... and I was looking for the corresponding hole in the chair, and the RO tower in the background.
