Gunsmithing Big Enough Lathe?

Grizzley lathe

I was wondering if this lathe would be big enough to do small work? Maybe thread a barrel or anything like that? I obviously dont have much experience with this stuff so any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Not ideal the spindle bore is very small.Depending on the barrel length it wont fit through the SB so you would have to do it with the steady rest.Then that may be a problem because of the short bed.

Thanks for the input. it sounds like if it would even work it would be the very minimum and not ideal.

There are some great deals on used lathes. Try for a Hardinge or Clausing-Colchester, these are as good as they get for a manual lathe.

I would save for awhile longer and get the smaller gunsmith lathe.

You can do a lot with a little.....but its far from ideal.

I run a Nardini MS1440. It is a copy of a Clausing. Quick glance on the net shows quite a few for sale in the under $4500 range. I would buy a second one for my home shop if I could find one closer to home that I could visit and run before spending the $.
