I'm looking to pick up a set of binos or a spotting scope for my shooting kit.

I was checking out something like the Leupold MArk 4 10x50 with a Mil-Dot reticle or the Bushnell Tactical Excursion Spotting Scope 15-45x 60mm First Focal Mil-Dot Reticle with Hard Case and Tripod Black.

The Spotting scope definitely has the range advantage with it's higher power...however I feel like the binos are more 'user' friendly since both eyes are being used.

What would you do in my case?

Re: Binos or Spotting Scope?

CameralandNY has this cool Vortex 15x56 Kaibab binos that feel like binos, but sight like spotters.

Not heavy and you can tripod mount them.

Give Doug a call, he'll set you up with a deal I can't repeat...

Go to a couple of the "Bird Watchers" sites (That's right...bird watchers...they need/want very high definition and color trueness) and read their evaluations of the different glasses. You need good definition to pick up bullet holes 300 yards out. JMHO

Re: Binos or Spotting Scope?

I use both but would go with the bino's if I could have only one. Spotting scopes are better for the range and scouting and evaluating long range. Also great for picking out bedded animals out of cover.

The area where I hunt is not big country by most standards, if it was, both would be essential.

Re: Binos or Spotting Scope?

Some of the spotters they make now are quite small and easily transorted in the field. Like the Leupold Gold Ring 12-40x60 HD. It has a carrying case for both the spotter and tripod. The spotter itself is not much heavier then my 10-25x binos.

Re: Binos or Spotting Scope?

For shooting , get a spotter. For hunting, binos are indispensable and a spotter is used sometimes. The ginornous high mag binos are kind of silly IMHO. Stick with 8x to 10x for binos.
