Bipod for Cadex 6.5 CM

I have 2 Accutac (SR5 gen1) and 1 Atlas BT46-LW17. I started with the Accutacs then decided to try an Atlas.

The Accutac is heavier but unless you're walking through the woods, that doesn't matter.

The Accutac has MUCH better leg extension and recovery. You can do it one-handed which is nice if you're prone and need to make a change. The Atlas requires two hands and getting out of position to do it reliably without the leg collapsing on itself.

Changing leg positions (0 / 45 / 90 etc.) is much nicer on the Atlas than the Accutac.

The Atlas has both pan and cant, the Accutac only has cant. You can buy an Atlas without pan if you want. I know some (many??) people on here hate pan but it's been nice for me. The problem though is if you're moving and changing positions and not paying attention when you put the gun down, your pan angle can get very far off from a near perpendicular alignment with the rifle which will cause recoil management and group size issues. You just have to pay attention every time you put the gun down so the bipod is perpendicular to the stock and not at an angle. On the other hand, if you need to pan a bit with an Accutac, you're dragging the bipod right or left on the ground most likely out of that really great spot you found to lock the spikes into.

Third party accessories like feet are more available for the Atlas.

I've had a few locking mechanism failures on the Accutac. They were most likely my fault - trying to cant without fully unlocking the mechanism. Customer support at Accutac was wonderful. Shipped it to them and they shipped it back with upgrades and repairs at no charge. I have not had any problems lately. I do not have a Gen 2 model but it looks like the locking mechanism is better than the Gen 1 models. I'm not saying the Accutac is worse because I guess Atlas has issues too with their locking knob mechanism. There is a third-party tool to torque on the knob so the mechanism stays in place. YMMV.

Honestly, I don't know which I'd choose if another rifle was adopted into the family. When you look at shooting and preparing to shoot, there are two things you do most often with a bipod, make leg height changes and lock the pan/cant mechanism in place once you've got the pan/cant where you want it. In both these cases, the Accutac is better IMHO. BUT ........ leg rotation isn't as nice and there are no third party feet. So I don't know.

Let us know what you decide.
