Hi, I decided to purchase a bipod for my howa an thus wondering if you could toss some ideas around as to what features are critical in this regard. A swivel should be considered as necessary?
Moreover, is there a reasonable alternative to Harris? If not, which of the Harris' models would you recommend?
Thanks in advance.

Harris swivel, notched legs, 6-9", most of the things in the shooting world aren't necessary, but they make inconvenient positional shots a little easier. It's better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it.

If you are shooting from a bench / table / concrete ground: No

If you are shooting from grass / natural ground (e.g. Army shooting range or hunting): Yes
