I'm looking for ideas & input as to what to do for a bipod or tripod on a .223 bolt gun for prone on grass. Currently shooting off a ruck but think there may be better options. With a few exceptions, these all seem to be in about the 200 dollar range. If you've used any or have an opinion please let me know it. Any I've missed? Here's my options that I've come up with so far:

Harris Model HBRS - http://www.harrisbipods.com/HBRS.html

Versa-Pod Model 923 - http://versapod.com/shop/versa-pod®-model-923

Accushot Atlas BT-10 - http://www.site-secure.biz/accushot/cat ... ucts_id=66

Re: Bipod/Tripod selection for 5.56mm bolt gun

I've used a Harris, an AI (Parker-Hale) and an Atlas. The Atlas is my favorite of the bunch. Loads better than the Harris, and is more "stable" than the AI. Both the AI and Atlas have a built in panning feature which is great for moving targets. The Atlas has a tension adjustment for the pan and the cant, which is why I like it better than the AI.

As I see it, the Atlas is the best of the bunch of all those you have listed for bipods. I have been using a V7 for over a year now on a couple of different ARs and one bolt gun (soon to be upgraded to a V8). It is a little more expensive the the other options you have listed, but you get a lot more for the money. They are extremely tough, have all the adjustability that you could ever want out of a bipod, and the company mfg'ing them is second-to-none! Kasey, the man behind AccuShot, is a frequent contributor here and is always available for technical questions/comments.

For a tripod, I can't recommend the PRS units enough. I have one of Danel's small tripods (panhead) with an SSP-2 cradle that I have used as a shooting platform, as well as with an LRF and my spotter on occassion. They are made using Slik tripods which are known for their quality, and again, the service and support you get from Danel Jenkins is excellent. I am going to "upgrade" to a medium tripod sometime soon because it offers both the extremely low (6") height when grounded and it also gets you up to around 42" or so for sitting/high kneeling or from other improvised positions. They are also easy to pack in a ruck or shooting bag to drag around with you.

Now...as to which of those are better suited for your purposes...that is a matter of preference that you'll have to decide on. Either way...both will serve you well.
