I have a black oxide station (3 tanks), I put 2 barrels, both the same manufacture and specs. Both prepped the exact same way. Both were cleaned at the same time and temperature, both were dipped into the blueing salts within 30 seconds of each other. One blued perfectly and the other not at all. any ideas on why this happened?

Maybe the one barrel is stainless...mix up at manufacturer or shipper. Get a magnet. Does the magnet stick with the same power to each barrel. Stainless tends to be less magnetic than non-stainless.

yea stainless is tricky. Both Barrels came as blanks NIB from the same Manufacture. That particular manufacture doesn't sell anything but Stainless barrels. I am perplexed.

There are all kinds of "Stainless". Depending on the composition, some will blue/oxidize and some won't, just like some is magnetic and some isn't.

That is good info. This is the first time I have come across this issue with any barrel. I will likely surface prep and try again. I am surprised about how much minor temperature changes affect different metals
