The only thing that you might like to eventually upgrade, if you need a MOA adding base: you could get a Near Manufacturing 34mm Aplhamount for that S&B and it'd be a perfect match.
It's got two rings in the front and one in the rear, and really holds that optic in place. [On a highspeed camera you can see the scope flex with two mount points, the near is alot better

Although I totally agree with the concept of going with NEAR, wouldn't he need a Flat Top Pictinny rail if he wanted to go with canted rings? Although Richard at NEAR could easily make you one I'm sure... since he makes Pic rails for TRG's.
My suggestion: Switch to the 40 MOA base you have, call up Richard at NEAR, drop my name (Adam) if you want and spend the $325 for an 0 MOA cant Alphamount... it will be the best decision you ever made... can dismount and remount the optics for eternity and it will return to zero every time. Run it over with a truck and the scope will break and not the mount
Also going with a higher caliber then I use (mine is .308) the extra regitity is not a bad thing. And you may say, well since it is stronger isn't it also heavier? The simple answer? NO, it is as light if not lighter then a Nightforce Unimount. I would tell you the exact weight, but the paper I had with it seems to have disappeared

Also it is so well cut, you don't even need loctite, in fact he suggests you don't use it... also you don't want to lap the rings, infact lapping them ruins the perfectness (not a word?) of the rings.
Also if you have any questions, he is always willing to help, I have spent an hour on the phone with him before and it didn't seem to bug him too much =P
His rings ($175 I think) are also top notch if you aren't willing to part with $325, but shooting a .338 I'm sure you can afford it, especially with how expensive Blasers are
But I guess I am bias, I have one... and I couldn't be happier with it. Can you tell how much I love it ?? lol...

So what would you consider a decent factory sniper rifle?
TRGs? SSG? 700s? </div></div>
I would consider TRGs, SSGs, Blasers and CUSTOM 700s all sniper rifles...
TRGs, SSGs and Blasers all meet milspec (thus can take a beating/pounding/elements)... are light enough to be in the Precision rifle matches (with proper optics also .223 or .308) -- 16.5 lbs and under... and are also easily under .5 MOA at 100 yards with factory ammo... get into reloading and you can easily take that lower... thus allowing them to reach out accurately to 800-1000 meters (depending on barrel length, twist rate and load development).
Just my opinion though.
