Blaser Tactical 11 338 Lapua Magnum with Schmidt and Bender 5x25x56 P4 fine mounted on a 12 MOA Pic rail with Badger 34mm rings. Spare 40 MOA rail for extreem long range shooting. Swarovski range finder. Shooting Mat. Shot 10 rounds so far almost 1 hole groups at 100 yards, cannot wait to hit the 1000 yard range in April

Re: My New long range setup

Why not mount your glass on the 40 MOA base and be done with it? Are you going to change the base say out on the field to engagte a target that is somewhere around 1500-1600 yards? Just curious that's all.

Re: My New long range setup

Do you reload for your Blaser? Ifso do you find best acuracy with your loads by jamming or seating just off Lands, My Blaser 308-243 LRS2 match barrels seem to like jump to lands with hand loads.

Re: My New long range setup

Being used to Blaser though in lesser cals than 338,

they are not rifles to be loaded with rounds that have bullets that jam in to the rifling and or are minimaly calibrated,

one of these days Murphy is going to visit you and you will have a Ftf and either a very weak primer strike and or none at all.

Why, beacuse the systems lock up will not allow for a striking pin strike when not 100% engaged.

It´s a security measure.

Still I like the Blaser for what they are, great hunting rifles,

best regards Chris

Re: My New long range setup

The reason I did not put the 40 MOA rail is that I got it after I had done all my zeroing. I am very new to this and have not done any long range shooting. I want to be able to get comfortable at 1000 yards before I even think about 2000 yard shots so I figure I will wait for now. besides with my present scope set up I am able to get to 1850 yards with a 12 MOA base

Please...The Blazer is an excellent sniper weapon system. It's been good enough for the Australian Military for a few years now.

Re: My New long range setup

Rath- that was not the issue or basis for my statement,

it was purely a reflection of the workings of a Blaser rifle, I have shot/reloaded for a few and I thought I knew what I talking about,

I guess you know better.

As for being a good rifle for sniper apps, I really do think it´s too pricey for the bang so to speak,

still as stated previously they are great hunting rifles, short, light, accurate as hell, safe, great scope mounts that return to zero even when being thrown around a bit.

Ohh well,

now I step down/ take care Chris

First off, very nice setup!

I'll keep an eye out for you at Range Borden this Spring

Most 338 LM rifles chamber $5 -$6 dollar bills, so the sooner you reload, the sooner you save. LOL.. Nice stick BTW.

So what would you consider a decent factory sniper rifle?

TRGs? SSG? 700s?

BTW: To the picture poster... nice rig!

The only thing that you might like to eventually upgrade, if you need a MOA adding base: you could get a Near Manufacturing 34mm Aplhamount for that S&B and it'd be a perfect match.

It's got two rings in the front and one in the rear, and really holds that optic in place. [On a highspeed camera you can see the scope flex with two mount points, the near is alot better

Re: My New long range setup

Great Set up, I just Got mine in a month ago and I topped it with a 5.5 x 22 NF. Ive been working on the reloading for 2 months. I should be ready to leg out and run with it next month..Good Luck

Re: My New long range setup

WOW. Manatee down here in FL is about 45 minutes south of me and it is a 1000 yard range. That rifle makes it really freakin hard to try not getting into centerfires again! (I blow through WAY to much ammo to go back to a .308 again.)

Although I totally agree with the concept of going with NEAR, wouldn't he need a Flat Top Pictinny rail if he wanted to go with canted rings? Although Richard at NEAR could easily make you one I'm sure... since he makes Pic rails for TRG's.

My suggestion: Switch to the 40 MOA base you have, call up Richard at NEAR, drop my name (Adam) if you want and spend the $325 for an 0 MOA cant Alphamount... it will be the best decision you ever made... can dismount and remount the optics for eternity and it will return to zero every time. Run it over with a truck and the scope will break and not the mount

Also going with a higher caliber then I use (mine is .308) the extra regitity is not a bad thing. And you may say, well since it is stronger isn't it also heavier? The simple answer? NO, it is as light if not lighter then a Nightforce Unimount. I would tell you the exact weight, but the paper I had with it seems to have disappeared :p Also it is so well cut, you don't even need loctite, in fact he suggests you don't use it... also you don't want to lap the rings, infact lapping them ruins the perfectness (not a word?) of the rings.

Also if you have any questions, he is always willing to help, I have spent an hour on the phone with him before and it didn't seem to bug him too much =P

His rings ($175 I think) are also top notch if you aren't willing to part with $325, but shooting a .338 I'm sure you can afford it, especially with how expensive Blasers are

But I guess I am bias, I have one... and I couldn't be happier with it. Can you tell how much I love it ?? lol...

I would consider TRGs, SSGs, Blasers and CUSTOM 700s all sniper rifles...

TRGs, SSGs and Blasers all meet milspec (thus can take a beating/pounding/elements)... are light enough to be in the Precision rifle matches (with proper optics also .223 or .308) -- 16.5 lbs and under... and are also easily under .5 MOA at 100 yards with factory ammo... get into reloading and you can easily take that lower... thus allowing them to reach out accurately to 800-1000 meters (depending on barrel length, twist rate and load development).

Just my opinion though.
