I am interested in getting into some longer range shooting and am considering starting with a Rem 700 sps in 223 (in my area I am limited to 300yds) and I am looking for suggestions on a $250 to $300 scope for this rifle. Thanks for your help.

You want to get into longer range shooting but limit it to 300 yards? I don't understand.

Re: bolt action 223 sps

If you are looking at an SPS in .223 be sure and get the tactical model. The 1 in 9 twist will open up a much more useful range of bullets for longer distances.

For a scope in that price range I would grab one of Midway's Bushnell Elite 3200 mil/mil fixed 10x powers. I have two and they have been nothing but fantastic. Having knobs that match the reticle really simplifies things.

I vote the SS as well. I have the same rifle in 223 and it has the SWFA on it now and it works plenty well. Ran a Nikon buckmaster (Mil dot as well) on it for a while too. Definitely a notable scope if you are interested in a variable power.

Both scopes tracked well and were plenty workable for me. The SWFA has a major advantage in adjustment range though.

I think the price point is close. I will say the the SWFA is a good bit heavier and bulkier than the Nikon. That may or may not be an issue for you.
