How many mags are too many? Or how many aren't enough?

I have seen many discussions involving magazine supply for AR/AK/Semi's, and pistols, but don't remember anything about for bolt actions?

Currently, i have about 3-4 AW mags for my SAC 308, and a couple 10 rounders and a couple 5 rounders in the single stack AICS flavor. Im thinking about upping that to 10 a piece to carry in an accessory belt to get slung over my shoulder along with my regular shooting bag, depending on the gun im shooting.

Anyone have any input?

For matches, I think 3 is the optimum, 2 the minimum.

Two for stages that have more than 10 rds, third mag for insurance or those rare “unlimited” round count stages.

For tactical OAF SHTF stuff...whatever or however many you feel like carrying. But I think 2 or 3 is about all you really need. Your inner “Rambo, John J., 1ea.” will have to decide.

Two, and only that many so I have a spare in case one gets fucked up.

Of course, I am a casual shooter and occasional hunter as opposed to a competitor or hard-core hunter, so others may well have use cases beyond those which I am likely to encounter.

I have a 5 and two 10's. I've never been to or shot a PRS match. I'm assuming that the 10's are what most folks use in matches and 5 rounders are only used for hunting restrictions.

I was mall ninja kidding. I have I think 6 total. But only use 4 of them regularly (Use ARC Mags, don't use the Alphas anymore)... Usually only take 2 or 3 to matches.
If using ARC mags then whatever the minimum is you need to triple that number that way when two or three rounds out of 10 feed and you get a jam, you can toss the mag and insert a fresh ARC mag loaded with 10 rounds and get off three more shots. Jam. Repeat.

I have 5 AICS 10 round mags, one MDT 10 rounder, one ARC 10 rounder (that Pucking Sucks). 4 AICS 5 rounders and one Magpul 5 rounder. I also have two of the PVA 6BR mag kits. All of this covers 3 actions and seven barrels :)

For my comp gun I have 3 MDT 10 round 223 mags for the .223 barrel, and 2 10 round MDT metal, a MDT 12 round, and a accurate 10 round with a area 419 base pad (14 total, but really long and limits usage) for all the.other short action caliber I could potentially shoot.

I think 3 for every set up is a good number.

took a couple of rifles to the ranch to zero newly mounted scopes. one feeds from AW mags, the other takes the single stacks only. Rummaging around in my shooting bag where i THOUGHT i had all of my bolt mags, and it seems i am wrong. all i had in there was 3 AW mags and a 10 round AICS mag.

Just reminded me i need to be more organized on where my other 5 round AICS are and that i need to keep a few more AICS mags around dedicated to my short 308.

i also re-learned i hate switch bipods between guns. not all rails are the same and i had to adjust the ADM qb lever on a couple of the guns.

off to try and find another atlas.....

I am just a casual shooter but carry to the range 2- 10rd mags plus 1 -5 round AICS mag as backup. Think I have 2 mags at home as spares.
