This may be a dumb question, but is there a way to convert a .378 to a .473?

Are the actions the same size? Im trying to discover if I can convert a 222 Remington into a 308 on a model 700 action.

Re: Bolt face conversion.

It can be done, but might be easier to sell your bolt and buy one thats already .473.

Re: Bolt face conversion.

It can be turned out easily, but the extractor groove will be turned out as well, so you will need to find another method of extraction. This is primarily done by fitting a sako or M16 style extractor. Since you will have to re-headspace anyway, it may be easier to trade the bolt or sell and re-buy, as the sako extractor will add cost to the bolt conversion.

Re: Bolt face conversion.

There are 100 million surplus rifles with .47" bolt faces.
There are very few surplus rifles with .38" bolt faces.

I am willing to open my bolt faces from .47" to .53" for magnums, but it is just too much work to reduce from .47" to .38". I have done it a few times, and I am done.
