Hello once again Hiders...

I have a Rem 700 in 300 Win Mag with the stock bolt. On top I have a NF ATACR 5-25x56. When the bolt is up, the handle is very close to the scope tube and eye piece. I mean like 1/8" clearance. If I run the bolt too fast or wear gloves, I'm riding against the scope. I'm not interested in getting higher rings but would like to know what bolt handles give me more area to grab over the stock bolt handle, but do not add so much thickness on the top side to potentially hit the scope.

And could this bolt handle be installed without having to ship the rifle/scope to whoever does it?

And while I'm at it... I was thinking of having either a Sako extractor or M16 extractor cut into the bolt. Every so often the spent brass fails to extract and I have to close the bolt and extract again. The receiver and bolt are older and probably have thousands of cycles on them.

Can the bolt handle and extractor work be done where I just send the bolt? or do I have to send the rifle too?

If I could just send the bolt, who would you recommend. Turn around time is the biggie for me.

Thanks in advance.

To properly set up your primary extraction on your bolt handle, they will want your action. Also on the magnum bolts, you can run into problems with clearance if the bolt nose relief is too small on your barrel.

If you use the right style it will move the "knob" further out from the axis of the bolt.
This can increase clearance with the scope.

With an after market bolt knob installed.
Best pic I could find.

As said above, you will need more clearance in the bolt nose recess cut on your barrel.
