Hi guys

So I figured I have nothing to loose by trying to enlarge my bolt knob without smithing it

Used Pratleys steel putty, what you would know as JB Weld state side which I've seen it

done before but wanted to minimize the freehand input as much possible. So I made a little mould first much like one would a fishing sinker mould. Instead of casting liquid in I lined it with the putty (after treating it thick with natural shoe polish as release agent) and clamped it on using a small g-clamp. Trimmed away the excess on the bolt side and what you see here is the result thus far. Will finish off tomorrow and post progress

Thanks for reading. Let me know what you think

Almost done

Thank you. Did it between bench combo sander (belt and disc) and final smoothing of edges by hand

Thanks gents. Appreciate the feedback. I'm not sure of the weight as I didn't weigh the bolt before. Will weigh a friends when I get a opportunity to and compare

Thanks!
No I looked at those but none local. Shipping from State side for just that wasn't justifiable. I tried a different version of similar concept but it didn't work for me and moved or came loose a few times. Figured nothing to loose in trying this. If it failed I would have had it threaded and fit a knob that way but so far so good.

Very nice! If you drilled some small dimples into the wood, would it come out "textured"?
Thank you. It would have. Did consider doing a pattern. What I did think of after was to try a step bit to make the mould. Could also look interesting. Next time

Hi Guys,
Latest project was made half on a lathe half with a lot of filing by hand...
My Tikka got a bolthandle in the style of my Anschuetz 22.
