I sent 2 factory 700 SA bolts out for work. The Cerakot covered the serial numbers on the underside of each. I think I know which went to which rifle but I am not sure. Does it matter? Same bolt face: .22-250 and .308. Before I pull the trigger I want to be sure my headspace or something else isnt screwed.

ETA: Problem solved, a really bright light close up and magnifying glass was able to make out the number on one bolt thereby resolving the issue.

Re: Bolt Mix Up

Pick a bolt and fired, not sized case. Now, pick a rifle, try both in the rifle and see how they fit. Change bolts and recheck fit. That'll get you close and may even make the decision for you.

Re: Bolt Mix Up

It can happen.

One trip to the range the bolts got swapped around between my wifes rifle and mine (who knows how that happened). One rifle is box stock and the other action and bolt has been machined & trued. I didn't notice it until we returned to the house and started cleaning. I wondered how many rounds were fired thru either rifle with the wrong bolts installed. Luckly nothing bad happened.

Shit happens.................
