When you look at a bare action with no barrel, trigger or anything like that, how much play should how have in the bolt? Both along the axis of bolt travel and radially. How much would be desired in a tactical / hunting set up? How much is too much?
Thanks for helping out a new guy.

Re: bolt play in a bare action

Not that it really matters but what type of action are you talking about? howa? remmy? savage???

Hyoslvr,

It's a little present everytime I catch a post (signature)!!!!

Original poster, check out custom builders sights. They generally have specs on bolt clearance for different needs

hyoslvr.
Can you just randomly post stuff, especially on my threads.

Although your signature does make it difficult to concentrate on the postings.

Re: bolt play in a bare action

My Savage is stupid accurate, and the bolt play in the action is crazy... I don't think it matters.

Re: bolt play in a bare action

You're more likely to get the actual tolerance if you post your question in the gun smithing section.

Re: bolt play in a bare action

Bolt play is normal without a barrel...there is nothing centering or preloading the bolt face. With a barrel, chamber, and cartridge centering it no more movement.
