Ever since the Remington implosion sourcing M700 parts has been increasingly harder. We ran out of OEM shrouds last week, so we went about solving that yesterday.

My goof up. G41 and G42 dyslexia. Lol.

2nd Op: As a friend said, "Holding onto small parts in a mill is %$&#@!* expensive."

Hah nice work. Using the grooving tool g41 ? Interesting.

The small texta (sharpie) black line. Indexing for thread ?

Have you thought about using a LH thread holder and tip, or a thread insert for your grooving tool, and do the part "backwards" ? Coz then you can do the counter bore for cocking piece in the lathe, and the mill only has to to the cocking piece channel and flats / radius. No need for 4th axis rotary.

Don't ask me how I know this.

A number of ways to skin this cat... I chose this because I've had the collet block for years, and the trunion/rotary on the machine lives there. Doing it this way keeps the spindle time on the lathe at a minimum which is good because it's always at a premium here.

The mill workholding is all QD style, so the setup is just a few minutes. With Macro presets and probing, I just have to be smart enough to document what baseplates are used. The program handles the rest. It's a long enough cycle time to where I can go do other stuff while it runs.

Minimising cycle time. You thought about it, and found a quicker solution, with same quality outcome.

    This is the way.
