Re: Boogity Boogity Boogity, Let's go racing boys!
i love nascar, or at least what nascar used to be. now it's just a bit too indyish.
technology and setups basically dominate leaving driver ability succombing to that technology. and they should rename the organization, afterall what is "stock" on any of the vehicles anymore?
that may start a discussion about driver ability - let's face it if they were focused on driver ability they would do it like the old IROC races - cars built "exactly" the same, start off with the same setup, just adjustments on pitstops. that leaves driver ability and ability to make the correct adjustments the biggest factor.
anyhow, IMO the roots / reality of nascar died when Dale sr. died. the only thing that comes close to what kept nascar going is Stewart (his attitude / driving mellowed since) and now Kyle Busch. perhaps except for Mark Martin and maybe M. Waltrip, the rest are cookie cut sheep.

Hows about half way thru the race the have to switch directions ?? Or maybe NOT know which way the race will be run . maybe half the field goes left , the other goes right !! All at 200 MPH . NOW that would be driver skill . </div></div>
that would be a great, and was talking about that a few weeks ago with a guy - even give a "halftime" of a few minutes to put adjustments to going to the right (at least for safety reasons). that would certainly mix things up a bit from not only a driver standpoint, but right down to the pitting itself.
anyhow i'll still watch it tomorrow, but for the rest of the season (except for night races) not with the same dedication as once before.
attending a race? only a few years ago one could go to the race and only blow about $70.00 including tickets. now the tickets are $70.00 for shit seats, and almost as much for infield. too many folks with the finger in the pie. over at pocono (my "home" track) they used to have "autograph alley" which was a spot before the drivers hit the pits to get in the cars. used to be free, now they whack you $.
other areas that offered perks of actually showing up at the track now cost extra.
seems that the "base crowd" that made it what is can't enjoy the benefits of what they created.
take the restrictor plates off (or for next year what ever they come up with for the fuel injection). if you are afraid to go fast, don't qualify for the big tracks, go bowling that sunday.
speed is like fun, you can't have too much of it when it comes to racing.
