Guys I'm getting parts together to do my first custom 700 build and have a question regarding bottom metal. I see a lot of you using Williams and Badger M4 bottom metal on your builds, if you’re not going DBM, and wonder is it really necessary. Does it affect the rifles accuracy over factory BDL BM? I'm guessing that Remington cut corners on the BM using something less than steel and the upgrades being done are to build it like a tank in case it gets dropped, etc..
Am I missing something else?

Re: Bottom Metal

Remington uses cast aluminum and yes it can break if dropped just right.

The bigger reason imho to go steel like Badger/Williams is that when tightening down the action screws to 65# you can over time crack the cheap factory cast aluminum metal.
