Are there any brakes that are quieter than others? I want to tame down a 338 win mag hunting but don't want to blow my ear drums out. I was looking at a vais, thruster, or maybe just having it magna ported. Any other ideas or suggestions?

Thanks

If you are going to run a brake on your hunting rifle I suggest using some electronic ear pro (not a bad idea for a non braked rifle ether) all brakes send a pressure wave closer to the shooter so I don't think any of them are really a good option without protection.

BEST option is to just spend the extra cash and get a can! It will be worth it in the long run. Silencer Co harvester or Silencer tech both make great 338 cans that also have muzzle brakes incorporated into the end of the can.

+1 for can. I took mine prairie dog hunting in Colorado a week ago (for a .260), so nice not to have to wear ear protection, no concussive blast.

Took daughter to range yesterday, let her try it out (he first time on a scoped rifle, she did well), then we removed the suppressor - gun was loud and lots of recoil (for a small frame girl). We then installed the brake, the force was pretty concussive. (all the side blast)

It is so nice shooting with a suppressor. I have one on order for my .338LM, another TBac. Expensive, but worth it IMHO

Check out jecustom brakes. He has a YouTube channel showing all his tests and measures decibels before and after. In some cases it's quieter at the shooter. Also on the lapua it really lowers recoil.
