I am getting components ready to start reloading for 300 win mag. I just got some RWS brass in and started measuring a few cases. I found that the neck wall thickness varies from about .012 to about .0145 on each piece of brass that I have measured (a few had a little bit less variation). Is it normal for brass to vary that much in neck thickness? If I turn them down to .012 will that make them too thin? Im still kinda new to reloading, so yalls input is appreciated

U R jumping in a complicated cartridge....everything keys off the belt on these belted cases.....savvy the ability to rechamber 1x cases in a different barrel....

I agree. If you start turning case necks expect to get a bushing die to control the neck tension. I suggest the Redding full length "S" sizer. But the choice is yours.
Before you start neck turning, make sure of your measuring capabilities. Sometimes measuring tubes like the case necks you have to develop a "feel" for it.
Make sure the case necks are completely clean and showing NO carbon buildup. The carbon buildup will mess things up when you're trying to measure the base metal.

Thanks for the responses. I have heard that the belted cases can build up above the belt and keep them from chambering. I was planning on getting a collet die from Larry Willis to help keep that in check. Is that the best way to control that? I have already purchased the redding bushing dies to use as well. I use a ball mic to measure thickness and the brass is new, so no carbon build up yet. I was just worried about turning that much off the necks to get them to .012 will that be too thin and cause them to split easier? Thaks for yalls help

At .012" you should not have a problem. Just remember to change your bushing accordingly.
Remember to watch the trimmer and don't let it cut into the shoulder. That can cause weak spots at the base of the case necks.
