Brass Questions

Okay so I want to order some new Lapua brass for my .223 rifle. I understand that this stuff is an amazing deal. I just always wondered what steps of reloading is unnecessary for this kind of brass. I read that you don't need to neck turn them and that you dont want to uniform the flashole. Also, you dont need to anneal them and I think I read somewhere that you dont need to uniform the primer pockets. So after you fire them through your gun, you only need to size, and clean the primer pockets, and trim them? I am just not clear on what you want to do and what you don't want to do in terms of brass preparation.

My other question is, how does the Lake City brass compare? To my understanding, this is one of the better brands of brass but do you still need to anneal them and neck turn and what not?

Sorry for this really dumb question, I somewhat just started to reload but I dont have all the equipment to neck turn and swage brass and all the concentricity equipment. So in other words, I mostly just have basic reloading components and if I can prevent worrying and buying all the other specific equipement, then the better.

Re: Brass Questions

So, where did you hear that Lapua brass was "an amazing deal?"

Just for some background, I've never used Lapua brass mainly because is so expensive and:

1. I quit neck turning about a decade ago.

2. I quit uniforming flash holes about a decade ago.

3. I've never annealed a case in my life.

4. I don't clean primer pockets. That's a pretty worthless procedure no matter what kind of brass you're using.

5. I quit uniforming primer pockets about a decade ago.

Unless you have a rifle with a tight chamber and capable of serious bench rest accuracy it's unlikely that you will see any significant difference on paper compared to more economical brass, after all your agonizing, time and expense.
