Brass Usage

Re: Brass Usage

I see. Pretty new to reloading. I've loaded 3-400 rounds. Using varget light load around 25 grains and once fired brass. I load everything to spec also. Nothing crazy.

Re: Brass Usage

I'm starting to see a few split necks on brass that I've full-sized and reloaded 3-5 times. I didn't really keep track of the .223 brass and cycles.

So how much the neck is getting worked by your die and how loose or tight the chamber neck area is may be more of a limiting factor. Time for me to start annealing them I guess...

Re: Brass Usage

With proper FL die setup and a good annealing regimen you can expect to load them until the pocket will no longer hold a primer. That factor will vary with the amount of pressure you apply to that primer. If you are only getting 3-5 firings from a case then you are doing something wrong or possibly bordering on dangerous.

Re: Brass Usage

I get around 20 times on lapua brass.what I like to do is neck size new case.load it and shoot.then neck size for 3 more fireings.after the 4th fireing I anneal the necks.then FL only bumping the shoulder.then neck the brass 3 more times.I keep this up till the necks show me other wise.in most cases its about the 20th or so time when I cannot load the brass again.

this has worked really well for my loaded cases.and my loads are hot.so annealing is really needed when you want the best life out of your brass.other than staing away from a hot load.
