  • Following a catastrophic vehicle failure almost a decade ago which had put engineers and scientists on edge for a long time, NASA's heavy duty Antares rocket program had redeemed itself in 2020 when an Antares vehicle successfully blasted into orbit carrying a Cygnus cargo vessel on a resupply mission to the International Space Station. All eyes are on Antares once again today, February 20, 2021 as another Cygnus spacecraft from Northrop-Grumman filled with essential supplies, food, and water prepares for the 300 mile skyward trek to the crew of the orbiting scientific research facility from NASA's Wallop Flight Center in Virginia.

WALLOP ISLAND, VA FORECAST: 33°F Calm. Mostly sunny skies. Here is to another successful launch. (y)

Saw a nasa live feed, 3 dudes narrating as it was happening. Those guys were awesome learned a ton in the time of that launch. Way more info than you normally get.

WATCH DOCKING OPERATIONS OF CYGNUS SS-KATHERINE JOHNSON WITH THE INTERNATIONAL SPACE STATION: NG-15 SS-Katherine Johnson couples with the station's robotic arm after a short duration of self propelled free flight, and successfully brought into the ISS's cargo bay. February 22, 2021.

The Northrop-Grumman Cygnus spacecraft is a high tech cargo capsule with 8,000 pound capacity, outfitted with directional jets allowing the capsule to be piloted remotely for precision coupling with other orbital payloads. This mission's Cygnus capsule had been named the SS-Katherine Johnson in honor of mathematician Katherine Johnson (1918-2020), whose work had been instrumental in the creation and execution of the historical Apollo moon landing program and the behemoth Saturn V rockets that made these missions possible.

Astronomy, physics, chemistry, biochemistry, history, and mathematics... These are the subjects which one week on YouTube is equivalent to 2 years in a traditional brick and mortar school. Many people have commented on YouTube about how they had been able to learn advanced calculus and trigonometry just by following awesome YouTube videos narrated and demonstrated by people who are passionate about their subjects.

ESPECIALLY important now, as actual schools seem to be more interested in debating how 'math is racist' and other nonsense...

Absolutely. Khan academy is one example. You can rewatch you tube at any time, download it, even make a podcast from it.

Then there is the recreational education side, which is also entertainment to me. Plus the livestreams, its what mtv was, and movies you cant find anywhere.

Imagine if it had been around 10 years earlier, or more...

Very smooth docking. Crazy to think of the orbital mechanics.involved to get that achieved.

I completely agree. One channel I subscribe to and really enjoy is MIT open course where you can sit in on lectures covering a broad range of subjects.
