    Swiss voters are casting ballots in a referendum to decide whether to enact new restrictions on guns and line up with other countries in the European visa-free travel zone who have tightened rules following extremist attacks.

    The proposal could require regular training in the use of firearms, special waivers for possession of some semi-automatic weapons and serial-numbering of major parts of some guns to help track them.

    Supporters, including the Swiss parliament and executive branch, say measures similar to those adopted by the EU after deadly extremist attacks in France are needed to ensure strong police cooperation and economic ties with Switzerland’s partners in Europe’s Schengen zone.     About two-thirds of respondents in recent polls on the issue said they supported the measure.

    Final results are expected by late afternoon on Sunday.

    I thought all Swiss males got an STG57 (or whatever they replaced it with now) and were required to compete with it 2-4 times a year as part of their military/militia type service. So do they still get MGs and cant have semi autos?

    Basically the Swiss are more concerned with money than freedom and the EU says "give up your freedom if you want to keep the nice flow of money" so the Swiss rolled over and played puppy dog to Brussels.

    The proponents of gun restrictions there are not even trying to use the old cliche reasons for gun control. They wouldn't have worked anyway because Switzerland has the lowest rate of gun crime of any European nation to begin with.

    They are doing it simply because they want to be like the neighboring EU nations. Jumping on the virtue signalling bandwagon. "All the cool kids are doing it so we are going to do it too". When a monkey sees other monkeys around it throwing and eating feces, it tends to pick up on it and engage in the same behavior. This is exactly what Switzerland is doing right now. What a fucking embarrassment to the proud history of that country.

    You know, I just had a conversation with a friend of mine who is in a recruiting and assessing position for US SOF.
    He was discussing with me the other day about the difficulty of finding “meat eaters” these days. This generation is so addicted to ease, participation trophies, and the normalcy bias that it is actually quite stunning. We have effectively committed a social castration of an entire generation.

    With the rest of the western world disarming and rolling over and the Muslim world and the Chinese arming for war it is about to get interesting.

    Not realy , EU is brute forcing them to sync their laws if they want unrestricted access to common EU market. So far Swiss resisted on many levels and are still negotiating bilateraly and reserve the right to refuse addoption of EU directives oncase by case basis

    He means the Minnesota Vikings. I’m sure they ski sometimes in Zermatt for Christmas. Unless, an ultra clandestine band of Væringjars decided to abandon the siege of Constantinople and build hot air powered long boats to sail above the alps and were shipwrecked on a 5 star ski resort and decided to stay in order to pester the French with wedgies and wet willies.

    I read that the shengen open-border was going to be pulled from the Swiss had they not agreed to the EU regulations. So in return for unrestricted movement of EU nationals into Swiss and Swiss nationals into the EU they accepted the terms of agreement. The shengen open border is responsible for a lot of economic activity so they don't want to miss out on that.

    As far as restrictions go, exemptions are made for sport shooters, Swiss militiamen, existing owners, and collectors. So it may not even change the landscape of firearms in Swiss all that much (magazine laws excluded). So for some lip-service the Swiss have not disrupted their economic activity.

    As the world becomes more peaceful (objectively, rates of violence has been going down since the dawn of man) people feel safe under the arms of economically free, just, democratic, centralized powers.

    Personally, the difference between the US and Europe is in the USA you have to prove you cannot own a gun whereas in Europe you have to prove you can own a gun. I much prefer the US method but it does allow absolute cunts to get a hold of firearms and then go kill people. We need to do a better job of showing that our neighbors are worth more alive than dead, which the current political climate does not do at all.

    Europe has proven recently even in countries with very tight regulations like France, that gun laws mean nothing to those that want to go do acts of mass killing. They had no problem getting guns when they wanted it, or trucks when they wanted them and then go to places like Sweden and it's practically grenade happy hour there (when was the last time you had a rash of grenade attacks in the USA?)

    Hi,

    Well my first thought is what F'ing BS!!!

    But after that initial thought subsides and real though goes into the issue; it is a very complex series of events that have led to this actually happening.

    It would be nice to say that nobody seen this coming but that would not be the truth. IF we (As Firearms Industry) were truthful in our comments on this situation we would have to say that Sig Arms AG forecasted this scenario almost 10 years ago when everything was sold off and split into 3 different companies (Sig Sauer GmbH, Sig Sauer Inc {USA} and SANS Swiss Arms).
    Then Sig Sauer GmbH even more directly predicted this situation a few years ago when they consumed and sorta dismantled SANS Swiss Arms by absorbing most of their product line and axing the rest.

    We also must realize that France played their cards PERFECT for this situation to come to fruition also.
    For example:
    My Switzerland home is roughly 15 minutes from Geneva airport and I go through 1 French manned border crossing and 1 French unmanned border crossing for fastest route.
    My Switzerland home is roughly 35 minutes from my shop and I go through 2 French manned border crossings for the fastest route.
    BUT last time I was there it took me 2 hours to get from Geneva airport to home due to French manned border "checking" everyone when normally you just drive through.
    After talking to several business owners and Geneva residents it was clear that France was "security checking" all vehicles during the morning and evening work commutes...this disrupted the entire Switzerland/France border population and was the catalyst of this recent vote outcome.

    Lots more but not enough time of the day or space on the forum, lol.

    Governments always seem to have time to harass, and inconvenience the law abiding citizens, so much easier than actually doing anything useful. Just look at the TSA... ignore all young muslim men traveling alone... strip search elderly white Christian grandmothers being pushed in wheelchairs by their children....
