Who has a scope in their type III brown??? I need to see a picture so I can get an idea of what shade of brown we're talking about. Gettin ready to place my order so if you've got one, post a picture please!
Though it makes it look almost like OD. In person, at least to me, it looks closer to bronze. It won't be like Duracoat or Ceracoat Dark Earth or Coyote Brown if that is what you're going for. It will have a metallic sheen to it.
How about ordering in Ceracoat? That way you can specify the color you want.
Re: Brown type III Anodizing... USO; Who's got one?!?!
Yeah, like I said, I thought it was OD as well...
Just get it in black. If you need to paint it later just send it out. There are outfits out there that will do it for less than what USO's guy charges, plus your scope delivery time will stretch out longer for sure.
What you can do is ask USO to make your scope coating-ready, basically I think they Aluminum-oxide blast the outer surfaces to get it ready for paint later... Don't think you want someone to take a blasting gun to a scope who may or may not know how to protect the sensitive areas well.
I like the brown but it is somewhat dark if your intention is to match it to FDE. In my minds eye though, it wouldn't go so bad agains some FDE AI skins. Bronze is a pretty good description and a dirty penny might describe it pretty well also.
You may inquire with USO if they have a sample they can send you.

DP425, I'm not trying to doubt Doc, but that sure does not look like the brown anodizing I saw displayed at USO, that looks like a dark earth ceracoated USO.

That looks right from the 2 I've seen. I sure hope so anyways cause it's the color I ordered.

I'm not sure if I'll get it or not; trying to see if I can get a sample. </div></div>
