I don't have a true intended use for this thing (I live in the Northeast) but it has been fun putting it together without overspending. It started as a Remmy Sendero in 300 Winnie that I got used (and maybe unfired) for $600. I had a local smith thread the barrel (took an inch off) and add an APA Little Bastard brake. I have a Timney trigger on the way. Stock is a B&C ($215 shipped on Ebay). Wyatt DBM and mag. Harris BiPod I had laying around. Optic is a Vortex Viper PST SFP. Base is a Nightforce 20 MOA and rings are Valdada. Bolt knob is from an Ebay guy in TN ... came out really nice for cheap money. I figure I have well less than $2500 into it. But I have a few questions:
1. I am going to get it CeraKoted in Sniper Grey but should I shoot it first to see if it needs any tuning before the coating?
2. Should I coat the entire bolt or leave the factory finish on the bolt body? This question is in regard to function more than esthetics.
3. Should I coat the DBM and mag? Not sure if this is usually done.
4. What should be a reasonable expectation for accuracy (precision)? It is a factory barrel and action. I am an experienced small bore shooter but this is my first big bore precision bolt gun. I do have an AR10 I built that I can get .5 MOA out of if everything goes right ... but not every time.
Long term ... and if it shoots well ... I might invest in a AI 1.5 chassis in black. If I sell the B&C, DBM and the factory stock and BM ... should be close to a wash.
