Guys, I am putting together an order for a USO 1.8-10 TPal. It is going to go on a MK12 Mod 0.

I am curious to hear from some guys who have this scope as to how they would build it if they had it to do over. I have a few options that I have settled on and some other stuff I am not sure about.

I am going to go Mil/Mil for sure, but the reticle is still to be determined. I am thinking GAP Mil scale.

I am going to go with EREK and red illumination for sure.

I want to go 30mm tube because I have a KAC 30mm mount coming.
I see no reason to spend the money changing the color, when matte black is free, LOL.

My biggest question is what size objective is best? I am thinking 44mm, but want to hear opinions.

Also, I am wondering if there is any reason to step up to one of the upgraded windage adjustments. I dont think so, because I rarely dial windage, but then I typically am shooting 308 and not 5.56. Should I consider this?

Any general suggestions or other things I should consider?

As I mentioned, the scope is going on a pretty close clone of a Mk12 Mod 0. It has a Noveske barrel, so it is not 100% correct. Here is a picture.

My range goes to about 700 yards, that is where 90% of my shooting will occur. At the range between 0 and 700 yards. Help me order the perfect 1.8-10. Thanks.

My ST10 with the 37mm objective is clearer than my 44mm SN3 was.
GAP would be my choice of mil scale reticle, and although the Erek rocks, the #3 will also be less than one turn for the ranges you stated and more (plus a little playing with nylon washers from Ace will zero stop it).

I'd do left hand windage if I were ordering.

Next one I build is going to have both the windage and parallax knobs on the right and the illumination on the left. That way I can completely drive the scope with my right hand and not have to break position to adjust the parallax.

I definitely dont want to compromise on this one. I am planning to make it the perfect scope for the MK12, at least for my purposes.

I have to have EREK, and really think I want the 44mm obj as well as red illumination. I dont mind waiting. Much. LOL

Why do you have to have the EREK? Is it because it looks cool? I ordered mine with the US#3 M40 Style 1/10 MIL. It will work great on an AR-15.
I've been waiting 3 months so far and it sucks. I used to think that I didn't mind waiting but I do now.

I have the 37mm objective on my SN3 which sits on my .308. My scope has the ERGO objective, but I cant tell the difference when compared to a scope with a larger objective. The weight savings would definitely be a plus there.
I have a Mil-Dot reticle in it, but I have the GAP-Mil reticle in my USO spotter and like it equally.
Never had an oportunity to try out the EREK knob, but I definitely like the #3 knobs just because its easy to know where I am at on elevation. I have been out to 550 yds and not been over 43 clicks (1/10 mil).

If you're getting a Tpal, I believe you're stuck with the 37mm objective. If you notice it is the same for the 3.2-17 and 5-25 Tpal models, there is no choice you get 44mm and 58mm respectively. I ordered a 1.8-10 SN-3 for my AR10 a few months ago, I went 44mm ERGO and went for the JNG-MIL reticle. It has a very large circle that will still be very usable as a fast aiming point at 1.8x.

They cannot retrofit an Erek into a different turret.

The #1 turrets on the one in stock for sale can be zero stopped by USO if you zero your rifle, then ship it to them. They did it for an SN3 I had that had #1's.......

Yes, the looks are part of it. Does that bother you?

It is also sort of what makes a USO a USO, IMO. Not to mention a very nice elevation knob, also not to mention the fact that it makes resale a TON easier if one goes that route.

It seems that I remember reading somewhere that the TPal was a 37mm only. If so, I guess I will go with 37mm, LOL. As far as I can tell, the 1.8-10 TPal is not on USO's website, so I cant tell what objective's are available.

I am definitely going with EREK. I just dont really want to own a USO without EREK. I love that elevation knob. I also have just about decided to go with the GAP mil reticle.

You just have to love the abiity to so customize a USO. Great company and product.

Personally I prefer how the clicks are spaced out broader on the EREK whereas they are VERY close together on the M3.

Sobr- I can find the 1.8-10 on the site, but the TPal option does not appear to be on the website yet.

If it is, I am embarrassed, because I cannot find it.

I know the TPal version has not been around that long, and I remember that as they were being introduced, Jeff or someone made the comment in a post that the TPal wasnt on the site yet. I am thinking that is the case.

It isn't on the site yet, according to John they are working on a new site. In the same 1.8-10 Tpal thread they mention that it isn't 1.8-10 either, but it is going to carry the same name to keep things simple. I think it ended up being 11.2x on the top end after initial estimates in the 12-13 range.

IMO, ERGO is more important on your scope than EREK, unless you will do all your shooting at more than 200 yards. The 37mm objective is what you should get anyway, so just lay back and enjoy it.

IMHO: I agree with "One-Eyed-Jack",

I'd opt for ERGO with U.S. #3 M40 Style or EREK Elevation Knob/Adj.

The 1.8-10x37 is Short in Length & Obj. Profile is small enough were adjusting parallax shouldn't be an issue. I believe optically the ERGO is clearer, since it uses less lenses. Again, from off the top U.S. Optics would be a better source for clarification/verification.

Just like the setup on "Tim1071" & "JBW#3" have on their M14(s)

I am going to talk to Jeff today about the TPal 1.8 he has listed. I really hate to buy any USO with standard elevation knob, just wont seem like a USO without EREK. Also, I have never tried anything with green illumination.

As far as ERGO being clearer, that may be technically true, since it has fewer lenses, but in my case, I think testing equipment would be necessary to see the difference. I have had both and they are both perfectly clear. FTM, MKIV's seem clear enough for me.

I went with red just because that is all I have ever had. Until recently. I picked up an ST10 in a trade and it is green. I actually like it a lot. I dont think I will change my build, but may try a green one on the future.

You might get lucky. I only waited 2 1/2 months for my recent SN-3.

When I wrote "ERGO" I really meant focus or parallax adjustment is more important than EREK.

My experience with USOs is that you don't need to constantly make small adjustments to the ERGO/AO, they seem to be fairly insensitive to this adjustment. You can get by with two basic settings, "100 yards" for targets less than 200 yards, and "300 yards" for longer shots. (I'm talking about actual focus settings, not what is written on the dial.)

I prefer ERGO because the T-PAL uses additional optics (not just mechanics) and I've found the ERGO version a little sharper in the one example of T-PAL that I've had (the Canadian SN-3).

Also, he will need to make sure not to specify any options incompatible with a TPAL, like the 44mm Objective and M40 style #3 windage knobs.

Yeah, I know I'm quoting myself, it's a little odd. Nevertheless, I found out tonight that USO can add ERGO to an ST-10 without it for $200 plus return shipping. It's a useful upgrade and I will be doing it to an ST-10 myself.
