Building a DPMS AR 10 LR 308 M2

Hey All,

New to Black Guns... Picked up a DPMS LR AR 10 308 M2
t

Going to rig it as a long range hunter (that is inside 500 yards)...

Putting a Bushnell 4.5-20x50 Mil Dot on it...

I need to swap out the Gas Block sight, I do not want to spend another arm & a leg on one...

Suggestions? A buddy just used a grinder on his, but I'd rather not do that...

Also, suggestions on ammo; I am not a rich man but I do not want dirty junk... Recoil does not bother me as I hunt with a 300 Win Mag and a Marlin 444...

I appreciate your input, suggestions, thoughts and opinions!

SCREAM A LITTLE and I'll see you on the woods...

Dissassemble BCG, clean and lube. Work the bolt by hand until it is kind of loose - get some PMAGs and send the DPMS ones back.
As for the GB, should be able to replace it with a flat-top type and then you can put any type on it. I was told that you can just leave it and ignore it in the scope view.

Thanks Popper,

I am new to the "Black Gun" so pardon my ignorance...

What is a "BCG"?

What are "PMAGS"?

I'll mount the scope and see how it runs with the "Stock" GB = Gas Block, but do plan to swap it out for a flat one at some point...

Can you give me a pointer or two about a swap out of a trigger?

Re: Building a DPMS AR 10 LR 308 M2

BCG = bolt carrier group
PMAGS = magpul's poly mag for this rifle, which isnt an AR10, they use different mags
there are several gas blocks you can use. try midway or brownells

swapping the trigger is easy. sometimes you have to remove the safety. turn it halfway between S and F and push it out. remove the hammer pin next, cover the thing with your hand so you dont launch stuff. then do the same for the trigger. re-assemble in the opposite manner

youtube has vids

BCG=Bolt Carrier Group

Magpul brand PMags are the polymer magazines, and they work very well.

As for triggers, I recommend Geissele, but they can be pricey. The SSA is a very good one and will run you in the $170 range. Don't know what your budget is, but that is one of the best on the market. There's other options out there for cheaper like a Rock River NM, but they're not quite as crisp. Triggers are easy to install with a simple punch and following the directions.

FWIW Midways has the Geiselle Super Dynamic on sale. A gas block will set you back ~$40. For accuracy I would add free floating handguards.

Marlin_444 -- I'm new to it too. But I love my 336 30-30.
So far I'm using wallyworld 150 corelock PSP.
I'm thinking of re-loading for it (LR308)but need to find out what really works. I haven't found any Pmags available, they must really work good.
