Hey guys,

I'm trying to build a M40A3 identical to those used by the USMC. I already have the following parts:

McMillan A4 - USMC Spec
Schneider 610 - 24in. 5 groove, 1:12" Match Grade Barrel
Badger Ordnance M5 Detachable Magazine Triggergaurd
Harris 6-9" S Series Bipod
KMW Podlock
Quick Cuff Model Two Sling from Tactical Intervention Specialists

I know the M40A3 uses the Remington 700 Short Action but does anyone know the specs on this? I'm trying to make this rifle as authentic as possible.

Is there a specific trigger used or is the factory one adjusted in house at Lejume?

What 1913 Mil Std Scope Rail is being used?

Other than optics, is there anything else I'm missing?

Any other tweaks that anyone knows about?

I appreciate everyones help

Re: Building a USMC M40A3

im no expert but theres plenty of info on this board. search.

6 digit serialed action, clip slotted, DDRoss base IIRC, badger rings with SIMRAD cap

any of the experts feel free to correct me, this is just what i gather from browsing

Re: Building a USMC M40A3

The marine corps scraped the old actions on the M40a1's in favor of fresh actions so you don't have to find a 6 digit. I believe they started with G series which are available everywhere. Check the serial code though. I could be off a little.

Re: Building a USMC M40A3

Give GoB a pm he has a base. and maybe a lug.

Re: Building a USMC M40A3

7MM,
Nice rundown.
Good job setting a few straight. I'm thinking true spec will be very hard with the scope (marks) and the sling (marked) as well as that nice cert from McMillan that it is a "genuine M40A3" stock.
Chad

Re: Building a USMC M40A3

The stock is just that. The USMC orders exactly the same stock as you can. No cert needed.

Scope, well there are a few MTCs that are marked M8541, but that is the only difference from other MTCs.

Mike Miller(TIS Slings) just sold a lot of M40A3 contract slings.

Re: Building a USMC M40A3

7mm - Your the man. Thanks a lot.

Re: Building a USMC M40A3

Does anyone know where to get a M24 trigger?

7mm - Do you know if the receiver has to be milled to accept the new Badger Ordnance M5? The McMillan stock is specd out USMC M40A3 slotted for the badger.

Re: Building a USMC M40A3

The recievr has to be slotted to accept the lugged optics base, but not the m5 badger. The stock has to have the cut out for it.Some are cut out for DD Ross bottom instead of the badger m5.

Only this, M40A1 is clip slotted, M40A3 is lug slotted and the USMC Simrad cap is properly Simrad not BO, but value 500USD , so BO is perfect

the simrad on the M40A3 if i remember correctly is from SPA defense? BO is gtg and looks identical.

Re: Building a USMC M40A3

Clip slotting is a generic term. Same could be said about the M40A1. Ive yet to see anyone load a M40A1 with a stripper clip.

I remember Simrad Optronics Norway, buyed togheter to each KN200/250, SPA Defense as distributor make them too, but Simrad guarantees 0,5Moa only with his caps, is right, BO looks identical.

Are you sure?

<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Originally Posted By: A10XRIFLE</div><div class="ubbcode-body">Its funny to see what Info is being spread arround.

1. The M40A3 is not Clipslotted. Its only "Slotted" or "Notched" to accept the Ross Lugged 30 MOA Base. As somone else pointed out the M40A1's were Clip sloted to accept stripper clips from an M-14 rifle. </div></div>

Re: Building a USMC M40A3

For Gods sake, its a generic term. Everyone that read the post knows exactly what I was saying. Will you be happy if I change it to "lugslotted" instead of "clipslotted"?

Re: Building a USMC M40A3

Happy or not happy, the perfect M40A3 list is yours, I only tried to help, for be properly perfect or complete, only this, excuse me, I didn't want criticize or ruin your work.

And the answer is no, the scope is not touching the base at any point. I triple checked. </div></div>

Re: Building a USMC M40A3

Jose, that cut in the ejection port looks pretty good with the base mounted. The rifle looks great. The carpet looks clean as well, did Lazy21 loan you his vacuum cleaner.

Re: Building a USMC M40A3
