There have been 3 - 4 recessions during my lifetime. As each recession took hold and reality set in, there have always been more and more articles that build false home in those those struggling. I am seeing more and more of these "come on's". They paint a picture of an easy way out of debt or how to make more money now that a person has been laid off. They are simply selling snake oil to American's who can't afford to spend their last dime on a scam.

Here is one of those "articles of hope".. There will be many more as things worsen.

"There is this expectation that teachers should be the moral leaders of students, and I do not disagree with that," Coppage said.

Is this the same school system that allow tranny/drag queen/psychopaths do naked lap dances for their student, and allows pornography to be placed in the school library?

Yeah? That’s what I thought.

Got into a conversation with Malum Prohibitum over in the "Stock Market" topic area. I brought it over here because, with the changing economic conditions, it is a timely topic. He referred to a website for "Mr. Money Mustache". (link below). Peter Jonathan Adeney is a "financial blogger". I did not find any documentation of degrees in finance or anything related. Is he giving sound financial advice... IDK.

Some of you young guy's might try this option. You old guy's have seen these offers many times when things got tight, economically. Remember, every time you click on a link, someone on the other end makes some money.

A comment from his ex-wife = Adeney—who, his now-ex told The New Yorker, squeezes his limes with a woodworker’s vise to get extra juice and mixes his peanut butter with a power drill to save money—told readers that the divorce was “about the most amicable separation that one could hope for.”

I would guess she got her 50% when they split. She runs an Etsy business:
Mrs. MM: The sky is the limit! There are many shops on Etsy that started off as one-person endeavors and now they own huge businesses with many employees. Most of them move on from Etsy and start their own web sites, which makes sense as they no longer need the Etsy platform to generate sales.

Why do you find this to be false hope?

The guy figured out a way to make money from his hobby. Good for him.

He did not spend money on it to start - he had already spent the money as a hobby, so he already had the machinery. He just decided to start selling his work instead of playing. He did buy more machinery once he was selling to cut down the time necessary to produce orders.

And it is not exactly making a lot of money. $207k was the revenue, not the profit. He "estimates" 65% of that is profit, $134,550, estimated, and I do not think that includes salary, since the 4 person team is family (wife, daughter, and daughter in law). No detail about what he is paying them or if the $134k is for all four of them.

All kinds of folks out there are finding all kinds of ways to make money.

Anything somebody wants to buy has to be produced by somebody. The person that figures out how to meet that need makes the money. It is as simple as that. You and I did not make any money off of engraved pet memorials because we did not see that there was a need (a market) for such things.

We seem to understand only that there is money to be made selling sand bags and scope mounts and adapter plates and, well, quality brass. There is a whole world out there beyond our shooting hobby.

We need a recession anyways. We are overdue. Call it a "correction" if you want to. Call it a "bubble" like they did in 2008. Call it a "purge" if you want to. The current economic conditions are unsustainable for a number of reasons. A recession purifies the markets. It is neccessary for economic health. The weak die along the side of the road and the strong get lean and come out the other side stronger. I'm not wishing for difficult times, but they are part of any economy and they will never stop. A downturn in the economy doesn't frighten the man who understands how to use it to his advantage. The rich get richer in recessions, learn how..

And now the IRS knows that he's employing them. I bet they will be looking for his payroll taxes. And now the state knows. I bet that they will be looking into workers comp insurance, unemployment insurance and a few other things that they mandate an employer pays

The IRS is a fat 2 year old who can barely walk. Everyone acts like they are some crack organization full of brilliant accountants. They are a group of fucking idiots who don't even understand the laws that govern the organization they work for. They are a joke. Once you've had a couple of run ins with them, you'll lose your fear. They are incompetent.

Nailed it.

Remember all that crap about the IRS targeting low income individuals? It's true, but not in the way the media paints it. The IRS goes after the low hanging fruit as they don't have the talent and/or resources to audit complex returns. If you're a plumber and accidentally claim mining depletion through turbo tax as a business expense then congratulations... you're low hanging fruit.

Just sold your business to a private equity firm through an F-Reorg to save a few million? They have no fuckin' clue what they're looking at so they don't even bother.

The IRS has a practitioner hotline that's available to CPAs, EAs and tax attorneys. This is supposed to be staffed by their more knowledgeable agents. In the off season we'll fuck with them a bit by calling them out on their lack of knowledge and/or blatant misinformation, then bet lunch on whether or not they'll mysteriously drop the call when they get jammed up. It helps to take the edge off of an otherwise aggravating experience.

Sounds like you have experience dealing with them.
I know a guy that went through a couple audits and every time he was owed money after it was done. All the aggravation and finding that the government owes you fifty dollars. What a waste of time when they are sending hundreds of billions to foreign countries and a few trillion to "entitlements"

The IRS has twice in my life informed me of errors in my return in my favor and sent me refund checks. That is the only experience I have dealing directly with them.

If any of you remember Neal Boortz, a now retired radio talk show host, I remember him reporting something similar in his experience.

I've been through two individual audit and a few business audits. In the end, you realize that unless you just start confessing to things they can't possibly know about, then it's all a circus act. They are lazy, uninterested and unintelligent. Nothing to fear unless you're Wesley Snipes or Willy Nelson.

Its one of 518 districts running 2300 schools in Missouri. So odds are its not. But anyone could look up the minutes for school board meetings and PTA meetings and such and see whats going on and exactly what a "guy" in question said and did about it for any district in the country.

See... anybody can do it, It's easy.

Five years ago, I was living at home with my mom in Rochester, New York and making $17 an hour in a managerial position.
But in 2018, a friend inspired me to move to Philadelphia and start a vending machine business. I used $10,000 of my savings to pay for a snack machine, a beverage machine, two credit card readers, food and drink products, and any delivery fees.

I'm recalling a term from back in the 1980''s that I have not heard in a long time.
Creative Financing. That was when the mortgage broker would dangle a carrot in front of the would be buyer and entice them to take a loan they knew very little about.
Deja Vu

Finding a loan with the lowest down payment possible won’t make buying a home cheap — but at least it will make it possible for many potential homeowners who otherwise might rent for the rest of their lives. The Chase DreaMaker loan is one mortgage option that provides some of this flexibility with a down payment requirement of just 3%. Below, CNBC Select outlines what you need to know about this home loan.

wrong. remember the obama "too big to fail" scam and bailout, the bailout iacocca pulled off? i would agree if those that should (due to whatever, their inabilty to prosper in a tough market is)fail-auto makers, unions, banks, restaurants, whatever are allowed to do so. this thinking has nothing to do in reference to the failures caused by the government's covid scam deliberate destruction. the allowed failures are always the small people never the elites.

"His car — the third he’s owned since 2021 after two trade-ins — is paid off in full. Each time he buys, he negotiates for a high interest rate on his car loan in return for the dealer lowering the sale price. Once he signs the deal, he pays the balance of the loan off in full in a few months."

LOL, Damn.

I do not understand why some of these are being sold by Hobo Hilton as "false hope." This lady went to school to get a degree in a field she wanted to work in that pays well in the 20 states that allow it. She disappointed her family, that wanted her to stay and work on the farmland that they own, and after high school she left and went to school and then went to graduate school.

We would all be criticizing her if she had studied college and graduate school in a field that did not have any return and she was complaining about her low income working retail at the shopping mall or something and complaining about being saddled with student debt. But she's not! She picked a field where low six figures is the norm and went for it. And succeeded.

How is that false hope?

Maybe all of us are not as smart as she is, or as driven, especially at such a young age (I know I wasn't at that age), but for those with the brains and the self motivation to get it done, they could certainly do what she did.

Who is explaining her story to their American kids, though? Most do not have any clue about a field like this being available out there. There are, however, lots of ways to make a six figure income in the United States.

This is truly the land of opportunity, which is why the rest of the world wants to be here.

And ways to make money are increasing, not decreasing, as time goes by.

The good old days kind of sucked in a lot of ways.

The middle class has shrunk in the past half century.

True story.

But what does that mean?

Most of that shift has been up, to upper income, rather than down, to lower income.

The shrinking of the middle class has been accompanied by an increase in the share of adults in the upper-income tier – from 14% in 1971 to 21% in 2021 – as well as an increase in the share who are in the lower-income tier, from 25% to 29%. These changes have occurred gradually, as the share of adults in the middle class decreased in each decade from 1971 to 2011, but then held steady through 2021.

If he kept a vehicle for 8-10 years, then maybe that is a good idea, but he's losing a ton on depreciation.

A dealership's "Wet Dream"..... They would love to have 100% of their customer's do this.
False hope - Go into a dealership and give this a try.

Related article, cash buyers.

False hope......... Similar to the person hitting it big playing the Lotto.
The reporters should be recruiting for the military.

If you are smart and driven, um, pretty high. In her field alone, there are 64,000, and 2400 more every year. Then there are doctors, attorneys, engineers, IT professionals, and on and on, lots of educated professionals. It's not rare. The odds are not low.

What a weird, defeatist attitude.

There are more than 12 million households with more than a million in net worth in this country. It's not a rare thing, and many of those households never made a six figure income.

Households with a six figure income are at the 62nd percentile, meaning 38 percent of households have an income of $100,000 or higher. This sort of thing is not rare at all, and you don't need a graduate degree or a professional job to earn a six figure income.

Right!

My wife was picking up our 17 year old from school 2 weeks ago. He gets in the car and points out the window and says...

"See mom! And you wonder why I don't want to go to school anymore! I have to deal with this shit everyday. The whole time I was waiting for you I had to watch this girl.... (she identifies as a cat) run around on all four (hands and feet) on the side walk jumping on top of her back pack playing with it like a cat plays with a toy mouse!"

My wife looked over and sure enough.... this girl was running around on all four and yes the girl student does identify as a cat!

I said, "If I'd seen that.... I'd record a video and post it on social media!"

There are hundreds of ads or pitches everyday suggesting you become a vendor on Amazon. It is very simple, you get thru the hoops and become a vendor selling all the shit listed on the Wal-Mart website for 10% more than Wal-Mart sells it. Idiots who buy shit off Amazon buy it from you, you fill the order with your Wal-Mart commercial account and they drop ship it to idiots. Magically, you make $180K a year, part time from home.

To no one's fucking surprise you do it and do not make $180K a year. You become one of the 750,000 assholes selling shit on Amazon and make a few thou a year maybe. Then you forget to check you account, slow ship shit and get a few hundred 2 star ratings and get less and less.

Well let's take the way-back machine to the early 1980's. VCR's got cheap and went from $899 to $129 for one with the same fucking features and the number of people who wanted to watch porn and 2nd run movies at home increased 1000 fold in a year or two. Every cunt with a vacant shelf or willing to rent a shitty commercial space opened a video store. Every 7-11 had two shelves of videos. Pretty quickly everyone had a card/account and was paying $3.99 to watch a tape on Friday night and drink at home. By the late 1980's 98% of them were out of business and Hastings or Block Buster had the business. When streaming hit, those stores went under and today almost no one "rents" a physical copy of a show.

For 98% of people, there is NO shortcut. To succeed at life you need a fucking job. You need to put between 10-20% of your gross pay in retirement accounts or investments every month. You need to buy or rent a house you can afford and stop thinking you need accommodations like some asshole on MTV Cribs. You need to stop thinking you need a top of the line, $75,000 pick up truck to haul leaves to the dump once a year. You need make a bag lunch. You need to buy a fucking Thermos and fill it with coffee and stop buying $10 a cup coffee. You need to stop paying $1,500 bucks for extras in the game app you play when you should be working. You need to watch local over the air TV and buy ONE streaming app for less than $20 bucks a month. Your fucking dog doesn't get steak mailed to you monthly. You kids play in the park on the free equipment. You need to eat as many meals at home as possible. Stop buying clothes and shoes for no reason.

One day you wake up and the kids are grown, you had a bunch of nice vacations camping, fishing and biking in state parks or national forests and once in a while you rented a boat for the weekend or paid gas money to your buddy and went water skiing or tubing all weekend. You do not own a piece of shit Harley and a leather queer outfit or have two sleeves of meaningless bullshit tattoos that cost $20K dollars. You have not spent $100K of gym memberships, you have a workout machine in the basement and you walk or run on the local school track. AND, best of all you have a few hundred thousand in investment and retirement accounts, an affordable house that is almost paid off or paid for and can look
forward to retiring in 5-15 years depending on when you started. So you save money, reduce debt and spend careful.

If your kids go to college or trade school, they do it by paying as they go, working part time, getting a bit of help from the folks, applying for grants or scholarships and stay the fuck away from student loans unless you are going to medical school to practice actual fucking medicine not essential oils or anything with a fucking bongo drum or chants. 90% of jobs do not require college. Want a free trade school? Join the military and learn a trade or skill and skip infantry, security forces or supply. If you want the most money, be flexible on where you have to live to get the big bucks. If you want the most happiness, compromise.

99% of people will not dine with Elon or fly in Taylor's private jet 1/2 way around the world to watch a football game. You will more than likely NEVER go to a Super Bowl, World Series or Stanley Cup or sit in the $11,000 seats at a sporting event. It is a pointless way to spend money. Patrick Mahomes will step over you to get a free beer no matter how dedicated a fan you are. Most people need to focus on living like normal people and fight the rich people who are demanding they eat bugs and ride the bus, so they have unlimited jet fuel and steak.
