Alright, so I have a youth model 700 in .243. The only thing I want to keep on it is the action. I was looking at the gun and realized it doesn't have a magazine floor plate...will that matter if I want to put a different stock on it?
I also was wondering what aftermarket barrel I should get. I want a .308 preferably under 26 inches.
If I purchased a barrel and stock, who would you guys suggest to put it all together for me?
And lastly, is there any place where I could sell the original .243 barrel and stock?

Thanks a lot!

Well, sounds like you have an ADL with a sporter barrel. Yes you can use a BDL stock, or just get any of the various DBM to work. You will only need BDL type action screws.

Before you go through with your project, you really have to step back and ask what you want in a rifle. Target, comp, hunting, hybrid? Do you have the marksmanship skills to hit steel out to 700-800Y? Do you reload.

Just that you are looking at some real coin to put a custom bbl and then have it trued. Not sure how old you are, but many of the folks here can drop 1K on an optic one payday and $700 on a stock the next, so the suggestions can be very relative to their income level.

You can get an off the shelf SPS varmint 308 with 26" bbl for $450 (after rebate), and pay bout $40-$75 and have it cut to your desired length. Shoot it till the cows come home.

Also, you should update your profile if you want suggestions for good smiths in your area.

This one started life as a new left handed youth .243.....

Sits in a bedded and floated McM Sporter, 3X9 Leupold with M1's installed, 20 MOA rail. The original 20" sporter weight barrel shot so good I had it chambered in 243AI, had the action trued, and all the metal cerekoted matte black. I run the 85 grain TSX and the 87 grain Vmax in it with Lapua brass, CCI 250's, and H414.

One of my favorite rifles..........
