My son and I put all the pieces together today and tested it as well. She ran fine so far. Sure is a fireball thrower

Other than the obvious impractical fun, there is a theory that goes along the lines of the following. Some states don't allow for Short Barreled Rifles (SBR), so the handgun arrangement is sort of a stop gap way around it. Add to that the rules of concealed carry in many states only have provisions for concealed handguns, not rifles. It leads some to think that since they can't have an sbr, they can do the next best and even be able to keep it in a car. Now, I'm not too sure how favorably a jury would look upon it assuming someone ever had to use it, but its an option.

Hope that helps.
Cheers.

Re: Built me a AR pistol

you could probably shoot them just fine like we used to with the mp5's and a nice sling. just shoot fully extended arm.

nice little blaster bro, i'll never understand how AR pistols are completely legal but SBR's are such a hassle

Re: Built me a AR pistol

For those of us in WA state, it's the closest we can get to an SBR. Pretty fun too.

(I removed the flashlight from this since it looked silly. Later it had a better aimpoint mount but I borrowed the aimpoint for something that would get some real use.)

They will always look silly. If I ever move to another state, I'm making sure I can have SBR's and I'm SBR a bunch of rifles.

Boggles the mind doesn't it? Lol. Freakin lawmakers anyways.

May depend on what state your from, that said no restrictions on barrel length in FL.

Re: Built me a AR pistol

Guess this was what I was thinking

You only need a rcvr not ever built into a rifle.
~No special markings needed.
~No need to have the manufacturer mark it or log it as anything special.
~No need to have the FFL transfer it to you as a pistol.

Re: Built me a AR pistol

So let me see if I have this straight:

I can just order ANY lower receiver and as long as the FFL calls it a pistol when I buy it, I can build it as a pistol? I've wondered about this, whether there were any markings from the factory to distinguish a pistol receiver from a rifle.

I did it just to have one. I have built several AR rifles and wanted something different. This has taken almost a year to get the parts for so it wasn't a rush job either for me.

Not sure about every state but in texas we can have any length.

It's a ATN ultra red dot. It has held up for years on another rifle and just put it on this build for now.

Again I'm not sure about all the states but in Texas when you buy a stripped lower it is listed as other. Not a long gun or pistol. If you want to build a pistol the lower can never have a buttstock on it. If you do install a stock then it's a rifle and can't be a pistol. They make buffer tubes that look alot better than mine but I had talked to alot of people and a full length buffer tube is the most reliable , so thats what I went with. I can't add a stock to it though because there are no threads on the end, which is a good thing, just in case I got a cop who thinks it's a sbr. Most guys who build these things take pics of the build in progress to show it was never a rifle.....me included.

Not sure about accuracy because I only tested for function yesterday. It's raining today so I cant shoot it or use my crono to see what speed it's even spitting a 55 gr bullet at. I would think 7.5" of barrel is not going to give me alot of fps.

Re: Built me a AR pistol

I had one for a minute....fun as all get out, but I couldn't find a good CCW holster for it.

Its BEST if the manufacturer logs the stripped receiver out as a pistol on its way to the FFL (btw-SBR vs Pistol has NOTHING to do with state law-unless the state is more restrictive, its a Fed thing).

MIne pictured was a SunDevil lower that they produced, logged and marked as a pistol-no grey areas at all that way.
