Looking for a BUIS for a flat top 7.62 AR platform . Need a front sight that mounts on a picatinny style Gas Block .

Re: BUIS for 7.62 AR

I use the RTS set from Dueck Defense. They are offset 45 degrees to the side so you can use them and your primary optic. May not be for you but I like them.

Re: BUIS for 7.62 AR

What platform are you going to run this on? If it's an Armalite AR-10, Midwest Industries http://www.midwestindustriesinc.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=category.display&category_id=192 and GG&G http://www.gggaz.com/index.php?id=200&parents=50,52 make a flip up front sight specifically for the Armalite AR-10. Armalite uses the same gas block for both their 5.56 and 7.62 rifles. The AR-10 receiver is about 1/10" taller than the 5.56 rifles. Hence the need for the taller front sights. If you're running a different brand, can't help you there. DPMS is has used three different heights to their receivers so far, and I have no idea as to the height of their 7.62 gas blocks vs. their 5.56 gas blocks. Some people have has success using regular AR-15 front sights on their AR-10's depending on the loads used, ranges at which they attempted to zero at,ect. Then there's the approximately 20 other manufacturers of 7.62 AR's out there...

I am running the Dueck Defense sights also and I really like them so far. They are quick to pick up and if you are running a large scope you don't have to take it off to be able to use the irons. Below is a link.

Which ever set up you go with to remember to get the buis front sight that is meant for a railed gas block, since its a different height than the one you would use for a quad rail. Just about everyone makes them now, Mag Pull is about to release a 2nd gen set of the thier sights. It appears they have done some work with the front sight. It depends on how much you want to spend and the style you want. YHM, Troy, Midwest Industries, Command Arms, ARMS, ect.

MN,

Do you want to try out a set of KAC and Troy sights? I have a set of both that I can remove from my guns and lend you to try out.

The problem with the magpul sights is that they aren't recommended for gas block use, although this may change for the 2nd gen models.

From Magpul:
NOTE: Cannot be mounted to a railed gas block due to excess heat issues. Front MBUS must be mounted to a railed fore end on the same plane as the receiver rail.

Re: BUIS for 7.62 AR

Sorry , I should have been more specific . This is a DPMS 3G1 in .308 . The gas block is definitely lower than the upper rail . The Dueck setup looks nice but I am looking for something like the Midwest Industries flip up sites .

Re: BUIS for 7.62 AR

I use YHM....like said get a front sight designed for the gas block it is taller than a standard rail front sight.

Re: BUIS for 7.62 AR

I was just mentioning that they are making a 2nd gen set of sights and then giving examples.

Not to hijack the thread, but any idea when they are coming out? I was going to pick up a gen 1 set for my .22, but figure I should wait until gen 2 comes out if its going to be anytime soon.

Re: BUIS for 7.62 AR

I dont know brother, but I am buying one of the new non NFA version of the Command Arms/EMA Tactical Roni here in the next few months as soon as the BATFE signs off on it's design and want to throw them on that.
