So what are the advantages of the different shaped rear backups? I have a circle with 2 apertures on my S&W but I am not totally happy with it. The smallest aperture is still very wide and makes accurate target acquisition dam near impossible. Thanks for all the info.

different apertures are generally for close or long range. I forget the split, 300 meters I think.

I shot the diamond head sights a few years ago when they first came out and generally liked it, but it doesnt seem to have caught on to much. Never bought a set if that tells you anything.

Practice target shooting with the iron sights. You can become extremely proficient with them. Your eye will eventually line up the front sight automatically In the center of the aperture. My favorite is the fixed carry handle with Nat'l match aperture sights. Just practice with good online or personal instruction and master the irons!

I'm game for trying new stuff.

I bought the Diamondhead a few years ago. More recently the Troy DOA and CSAT CQ rear made by XS. Even have a Dueck setup on my 1-6.5 optic'd carbine.

I find the Diamond works better than the DOA for me. I prefer the Diamond over regular aperture.

The CSAT notch-top is dead nuts on @ 7yds. I run a 12" DD Lite rail on that 14.5" gun. If I was still LE and ran irons up all the time I'd use the CSAT.

I'm evaluating the Dueck offset sights. I have the CSAT in the rear sight. A cop can't always control optic fogging, or even mud, snow, ice, blood, whatever from occluding the optic. The cant is faster than a pistol transition or irons flip up. Interesting video comparison here:
