I was interested in hunting bigger varmint and javalinas. I was wondering what bullet would be good to use for these types of animals and the recommended twist rate for them.

Re: bullet choice for 22-250 AI

For javelinas I would use a Nosler 60gr Partition, for other varmints anything in the A-Max or V-Max line.

First off, what is the twist rate?? You need a 1in9 or 1in8 to stabilize the 75's. You could try them in a slower twist, but those above are best.

I shoot the 75 grain A-Max bullet in a 1in8 twist 22-250. And your AI(as you know) is a touch faster.

I am not sure why someone would recommend a thin skinned target bullet like the A-Max for anything larger than a groundhog. That is what I use them for, and get spectacular blow ups. The 75 A-Max is definitely not a bullet of choice for larger than groundhog game.

Go with a controlled expansion bullet if you must shoot a 22 caliber bullet.

Go with a bullet that matches your twist.

Personally I think the Barnes bullets are overpriced. But if you must hunt with a 22 caliber for larger game then look at the Barnes or Nosler Partition. Definitely stay away from the A-Max for larger game. Tom.

Whats the lightest bullet you would rec. for a 1:9 twist? It sounds like the 75g amaxes are just across the board the most "user friendly" bullet. They are also a LOT cheaper than VLD's.
