Bullet Puller for 338. Which kind to get?

Re: Bullet Puller for 338. Which kind to get?

A collet type would work best, either RCBS or Hornady, if you have a Forster press, you need the Hornady, the RCBS will work with just about any other single stage press.

Which kind of puller works with a 338 norma magnum? </div></div>

I ended up getting the Hornady 338 collet for my Horandy collet puller after I stuck a case in my Midway kinetic puller and had to wrench the darn thing out, ruining it.

It is possible to "crush" the pulled bullet by using too much clamping force. I made sure the puller is free from any oils as well as the bullet. I rub rosin or "Pro-Grip" base-ball gripping agent onto the jacket of the bullet to help the collet use less force to pull the bullet out of the case.
It works well.

I bought the Hornady collet puller. It takes a little time to get the feel of it, but I really like the collet's lever to get the right amount of grip onto the bullet. It's much better than the Forster one I used before.

I used it to dismantle about 150 rounds of WWI / 1918 US 30/06 ball that would hang fire due to bad primers. Pulled the bullets and powder and reloaded the components into fresh primed US GI 30/06 cases. The recycled components shot great out of my 1903 A3.

Even though I like the stable indexing of the Forster puller that fits regular presses, the RCBS collets grip the bullet closest to the case mouth. It works on short pistol bullets as well on the long cases. Might as well standardize on one set of collets. My Forster is now about 47 years old and I really like it...however, the new magnum cases with the abrupt shoulders won't fit into the die body. So...RCBS wins here as well. JMHO
