Yes, it depends a lot on the manufacturer and bullet. I typically do a sample of a lot when I get them in. If they are very consistent, as Bergers usually are, I don't worry much about sorting when I load. If there is a lot of variation, like Barmes and Hornady, I will sort out bullets within a narrow range each time I load. (Having said that, I have gotten a couple lots of Hornady ELDs that were very consistent and did not need sorting). Oh, and if I am loading to shoot less than 600 yards, I don't think it's worth the time to do any sorting.
