I was curious if anyone has verified the change in ballistic coefficient after bullet tipping. I trimmed meplats and used the Hoover bullet tipping die and definitely saw some degree of increased BC. I have not had a chance to get back to the range yet and do some truing. I am using Berger 140 gr hybrid target bullets in 6.5. Factory specs are G7 of .311. I am wondering how much of a change can expect .315, .320 ??

5% is a good average number.

But, the most important thing is you BC us more consistent from bullet to bullet. That consistency is worth far more than any BC increase.

5% would raise the BC to .326. I will do some truing next time I get to the range and post what I find. Thanks for the input.

Bryan Litz did a ton of testing and wrote a section about it Modern Advacements in Long Range Shooting Volume 2.

I don't now if this fits in here as I am not too savvy on the subject but here it goes--

I have a bunch of .264 Horn. BTHP Match bullets I shoot all of the time. I realize they are not the latest or the greatest but they are what I have a good number of. I have others but this is what I shoot as I am a cheap ass MFer.

The tips of the bullets are not always right as the machines punched them out so when I am all done reloading a few the last thing I do is take a small mill bastard file in hand and "tune" them up a bit. Each and every one. Some a stroke or 2 and some a few more until I am happy with what I see on that tip. There is very little metal that is removed but I do have fewer "flier,--bad bullet" calls in my feeble mind than I did before I started doing this.
I don't have any gauges or measuring devices for this, just a file and my eye and into the box they go. Does this fit in here?
I am fortunate that I can shoot every day, weather permitting, and the only person I have to satisfy as to score is me.
