Guys why does my 300 win mag have such a bigger bullet trace then my 308 when they're shooting the same bullet?...168gn amax at 600 yards... thanks for the info chaz

the bullet "trace" is actually the mirage of the bullet passing through the air and, boiling the water in the air from the friction of the round passing through it.

more velocity, more friction, more mirage/trace/vapor trail.

It's not much different from viewing the mirage on your target except this is induced from a very fast bullet going through the air heating the air the bullet travels through.

you wil also notice less trace when the wind is disappating the trace before your eye can recognize it. more when humid makes sense but can't say i noticed lately. have seen it on some dry cold winter days.....but then again it was a 300 RUM :}
