Hey guys can anyone give me an answer to what size bushings I will need for my redding s type die for a 243 Ackley improved. Plan on using laupa brass and have some of the berger 105 hybrids on the way as well as some amaxes. I was hoping to order the dies and bushing together to save on shipping but don't know what size of bushings to get for sure. Thanks

Measure a loaded round with the brass you intend to use and subtract .002" from that number, for the generic method.

If you're Tier 1, determine how much neck constriction you want to place on the bullet...ie .002", then measure the neck walls of your cases, double that number, add this number to the bullet diameter, subtract the desired number and get that bushing.

Always measure in a few places and then average out the measurements for a few carts, or necks.

Thanks for the reply. My problem is that I don't have the brass or bullets yet. I was hoping there was someone shooting 243 with laupa brass and the hybrids or amaxes that could tell me what the are using. Then I would just order that bushing and one on each side of it. I am to impatient to wait for my brass and bullets to show up:). Thanks again for the reply.

Brands of brass differ in neck wall thicknesses, so one should always have a couple of bushings, hopefully the TiN coated bushings, so you don't have to lube the necks. I don't shoot the 243 AI, but I would guess that your neck walls are between .014" and .015" thick, so you can have an idea if nobody else can tell you exactly what you need.

For bolt guns, between .001" and .002" of neck constriction seems to be the going rate. For gas guns, between .002" and .004" works best with the heavier bolt carrier groups.
