hi guys

Im just starting out in long range shooting and have just set up a new rem 700 .308 with 20 moa base and bushnell 4200 6 - 24 ffp.

I took it down to the range on sunday and with scope bottomed out max, still needed a 2 mil holdover at 100 yards is this normal or a problem with scope?

i have read on the forums and am aware of the scopes shortcomings in elevation but have also read that others have had no problems with 20 moa base.

any info would be much appreciated.

Not knowing which base and rings but with the 20moa added to the scopes verticle adjustment you should be able to get out a lot closer to 1000 yds with the .308. Go back and start over with the set up of the scope/rifle/base/rings. Im not sure it can be done because of screw length but could the base be installed backwards? Check that first. Id run the scope back to zero and boresight it or align the bore and reticle best you can with your eye. See how much verticle adjustment you have left after that. Sounds like something with the base or rings is not assembled correctly or the scope is FUBAR. Eliminate the base & rings as a cause then move to the scope.

Re: bushnell 4200 100 yard zero

Did you mean you you still have to hold under at 100yds? That's not uncommon with this scope and a 20moa base. Mine is shooting 1 mil high at 100 with the scope bottomed out. I just left it that way. It gives me a 250 yard zero. I hold 1 mil low at 100 and I only need a little over 9 mils to get out to 1000.

Holding over? You have the base installed backwards, or your receiver is out of spec and the base may need to be shimmed.

Holding under maybe you could experiment with different ring height and mounting location combinations or just learn to live with it.

Thanks bro

am flat out this week, but will have plenty of time coming up. looks like i may need to invest in a 15 moa base by the sounds of it. that or wait for the new vortex pst. (damn i hate waiting for stuff)

thanks every one else for the advice.
