So I have owned several 4200 scopes and think they are just about the best scopes out there for the money. Time tested since Bausch & Lomb. The new side focus scopes I dont think hold up optically to the front focus. Also the 6500 especially the 4.5-30x doesnt seem to be even close to the optics of the 4200, specifically the 6-24 and 8-32X. I have had 2 6500 4.5-30X's and both were virtually unusable past 20x. Is this a fluke or have others experienced this as well. I contacted Bushnell about the situation and they kept saying how the 6500 glass is better, but I really think they have no clue what they are talking about. The 6500 are being replaced by Bushnell as we speak but I suspect the replacements will have the same issues. Have others experienced the same problems with these new scopes?

Re: Bushnell 4200 & 6500

I just only noticed that 6500 based on 30 mm tube and more room for vertical/horizental adjustment. The glass I have no experience.

Re: Bushnell 4200 & 6500

I love my 4200. I don't think $520 anywhere else can buy a variable power scope that compares with the Elite 4200 6-24x50 at all.

Re: Bushnell 4200 & 6500

I totally agree. My 10-15 yr old 4200 Bausch & Lomb has beautiful glass. I don't know about the newer ones.

Re: Bushnell 4200 & 6500

I purchased a 6500 awhile back. Before mounting the glass I turn it up. The glass on high power was terrible. I think on the setting 18x to 20x was the clearest. After that it went downhill fast. I call Busnell and got a full refund. They wanted to exchange it but I decide aganist it.
I ended up buying a NF. From there I start investing in better glass. Buy Once Cry Once It finally made sense to me after that.

Re: Bushnell 4200 & 6500

I have heared many complain about magnify of 6500 when further than 20 x it's always blur but no problem with 4200.

Re: Bushnell 4200 & 6500

I can't speak for going over 20x. But my 6500 2.5-16x42 is very clear at 16x. I am extremely happy with it.

Re: Bushnell 4200 & 6500

I just sent a 6500 4.5x30 back also, same problem..loses resolution above 24x. I have a Tactical 4200 6x24 that is very nice though.

Re: Bushnell 4200 & 6500

I need to mention that the 0ld 4200 6-24 and 8-32 with regular AO 1inch tube scopes are the ones I'm talking about!

We compared side by side my old 4200 8-32 with a friends new 4200 6-24 30mm side focus, and not exaggerating,My friend wanted to trade me strait across right then. That's much how clearer they are!Now they aren't a super tough tactical grade scope and don't have alot of elevation but they ARE very repeatable and are a bargain for how much they cost. They also have low profile finger adjust knobs with caps that don't stick up so high like most of the Tactical scopes.

Re: Bushnell 4200 & 6500

Received my replacement 6500 from Bushnell. It is still fuzzy at 20X+. IMO Bushnell missed the marked with this scope. I will be sending it back for a refund. Trying to jam so many features in one scope destroyed its optics. I too find the 1" 4200 6-24 and 8-32 scopes to be the best Bushnell has to offer. Even their new side focus models arent as good side by side.
