Anyone got any real issues with Optics form cabelas for a S&W 15-22? Or an horror stories? Yes I know you get what you pay for but for squirrels, rabits and the such how much do you really need for a .22lr?

Re: Cabela's Optic Brand

I got a used alaskan guide on the optics forum here, and its a pretty good scope.
each series is made by a different manufacter though

Re: Cabela's Optic Brand

I bought one that had a 22lr BDC and the windage knob had 5 graduations (tick marks) per moa, but it was quarter moa clicks... Something seriously wrong there. I don't recommend getting anything with cabelas name on it.

Re: Cabela's Optic Brand

I have one. The glass isnt bad, but if you dial in windage it will not return to zero, or even fairly close.

Re: Cabela's Optic Brand

Yeah, don't!

I wasted a $100.00 gift certificate. Cabellas guide series. 4x18 i believe it was. Wouldn't return to zero, elevation or windage, click value was FUBAR, had caliber specific turrets may have something to do with the later issue. While focusing the eyepiece the reticule had an elliptical orbit. Really, it did!

As long as I never touched the turrets or eyepiece, no problem.

Hung my head, swore to NEVER, EVER do that again and bought a SWFA straight 16!

Happy Camper once again!

Thanks for sharing your experiences.
Those cabelas scopes look pretty tempting in the glass case.
With cabelas name on them a person could mistakenly think they are good.

Why would the Cabelas name ever be associated with quality ?
The product is the lowest quality that meets the bid specs.

Fact! Their products are 99% Chinese junk.

Re: Cabela's Optic Brand

I've had reasonably good luck with mine. It's a 3-12x40 with turrets for 17hmr. Like the other guys said about the windage, it you dick with it, it doesn't return to zero well. That said, the glass isn't too bad, and I can shot slightly sub-moa often enough.

Edit: now that I do know more, I probably wouldn't buy it again.

Re: Cabela's Optic Brand

Mine looks yellow when you look through it...one of those 3/12 models with the multi BDC turrets. Fail.

And I thought it was just me... Maybe it's for higher contrast!

Fortunately mine is only on a M-forgery once in a while, and that rifle isn't much of a shooter anyway. I haven't had any trouble with return to zero, but it is hard to clear, has the noted tint, and is poor quality glass.

Re: Cabela's Optic Brand

depending on what your doing and what your trying to set up, nikon has a 3-9 rimfire bdc scope i shoot on my 10/22. it's been pretty sweet

I'll second this post. My Nikon hasn't let me down either.

Re: Cabela's Optic Brand

FYI, Cabela's is now selling Nightforce Optics and is currently stocking them in at least the Eugene, Oregon store. Its nice to be able to look through a scope before you drop that kind of money down on it. And I wish I didn't get the chance to look through a Nightforce.. My Leupold just doesn't look as clear as it use to anymore..

Re: Cabela's Optic Brand

I have an older "Pine Ridge" 6-18x40 from Cabelas made just for the .17, ordered it on-line. I have not experienced any problems with it at all after about 15,000 rounds. Always returns to zero and the glass is crystal clear. ....musta got lucky. I bought two and gave one to my shooting buddy for his .17. He put it on his and to the best of my knowlage has not had issue either.

oh well. up to ya.

Re: Cabela's Optic Brand

I hate to admit this but, my 17hmr came with a pine ridge 3-9 with a bdc turret. I have used it out to 300 yards and it seems to be on every time. I could have gotten lucky. Several birds can attest to its repeatability to 200 yrds. I'm guessing this may be a fluke.

Re: Cabela's Optic Brand

Hey guys, thanks for the info. I dont know who said it but those Cabelas brands do look tempting in the case at $100 bucks for a 5 x 1000! But likes you guys all say, u get what you pay for! Still, I went with a redfield for my .22
