I have been out of pocket for a few years and need an explanation on the differences between the .223 Rem & the 5.56 x 45 that some custom AR manufactures are producing. Are the 5.56's hotter than the standard .223 Rem ? Is it the same scenario as the .44 Mag reloads for a carbine being hotter than those of a handgun ? Or is this a new caliber all together ? Cheers ! No

Have to assume 44s will be shot in a pistol, so to eliminate problems they're all loaded for the pistols.

This is of course we're talking factory and not reloads.

Re: Caliber Question

The 5.56x45 spec has a longer freebore than the .223 Rem SAAMI spec because of the 62gr SS109 ammo. The 223 Wylde chamber is closer to the 5.56x45

If you have a factory chambered 223 though it likely has a long chamber anyway and won't cause issues.
